If you're like me and enjoy looking at maps & development plans and also love Ohio University and Athens, you will probably greatly enjoy looking at this.

Overall, I love the vision for the Athens Campus.

Lots of individual projects that probably could have their own threads

-I really love the plan for the area between East Green and South Green running all the way from Clippinger over to Riverpark. From the renderings, it almost looks like one super long running green.

-The new medical green on the West side could really be a catalyst for Union Street and allows existing medical buildings on west to be converted to dorms.

-New aquatic center/hockey rink connected to Ping.

-Ping slated for renovation.

-Alden slated for renovation. From what they said in the plan, it sounds like the renovation will "open up" the front of the building (facing the street) and make it more of an "indoor/outdoor" building which goes along with discussions of making that street more pedestrian focused as opposed to vehicular. Since new Baker opened, the sidewalk between Morton Hill and new Baker is probably most congested place on campus between class changes.

-New "Visitor Center" on the front of the Convo. They note the need for a Visitor Center and also the expensive cost of replacing the Convo walkways and this would accomplish both. This could really enhance that front foyer area of the Convo where the ticket office is. Hopefully the other walkways around the Convo would go hand-in-hand with a concourse renovation. I think a relatively minor concourse project could go a long way.

-The plan for the Ridges is pretty extensive and includes potentially some new construction and even retail. It'll be very interesting to see more on that.

Very interesting. I noticed what appears to be a potential bridge across the Hocking somewhere near the existing soccer field to provide access to The Ridges. I didn't see any detail about that, but I wonder how realistic the idea is.

Would be nice to see Chessa Field (soccer) get some significant improvements. Personally, I think it's in a lousy location. Too far from everything.

Every single project except for the Visitor Center there are active discussions. A private developer is in discussions with the Ridges redevelopment. Plans should be finalized within a year. Ping expansion may be years away but at least they are talking about it. The College of Business building awaits a donor. The one building you don't hear any movement on is the Visitor Center which I imagine is a big ticket item awaiting a donor. Much better than building a separate Alumni Center as in the Glidden master plan.
