There's an article on A.O.L. about the most haunted places in the U.S.

They list each one by state.

No surprise,Ohio's is the Athens Lunatic Asylum.

But they do offer shuttle service up there to see the sights/sites.

Didn't need no damn shuttle service, I worked up there for about five years. No ghosts ever bothered me, nor anyone I know. Worked up there late at night sometimes, too. As an educational institution, we ought distant ourselves from unsubstantiated "ghost stories." I'm all for legitimate research into the paranormal, but this Athens is haunted crapola is just fodder for minds full of mush and bears no resemblance to any reality. It's kept in the public eye by alumni who think it's neat to portray our campus and town in this manner. They ought to get a life!

Come on Carl, it's time to get over the cranky old man syndrome. As kids today will often say, it is what is.

Do you know what a tautology is? Please, you can do better than that, Alan.

And, when is being accurate being a cranky old man?

While it may be completely unsubstantiated and not very exciting for you or me, what does it hurt? I don't think it puts the university in a negative light in any way. A lot of people have fun with it.

I still remember the "Scariest Places On Earth" episode about the asylum, including "The Stain".

I also enjoyed reading "Guide To Ohio University Ghosts & Legends".

There are also "Ghost Tours" in places like Gettysburg, Savannah, and Charleston, SC. Though they are not quite like state-run lotteries, which are in essence taxes on ignorance, they do take advantage of the gullibleness of people.

Is your middle name Scrooge? Or are you always such a sour puss? I've taken a haunted tour of Salem, Massachusetts. Yes, I know it's all BS, but it's still fun!

I don't buy it. 90% of people that take ghost tours are not there because they believe in actual ghosts. It's just entertainment. It's the same as watching a football game or going to a movie. All of the Athens-is-haunted stuff is just for fun.

You apparently aren't a devoted reader of the Athens News over the last four decades or so. Unfortunately, there are many true believers in this rubbish.

[Scratches OCF off invitation list for my famous annual "Lottery Scratch-off A-Thon in a Cemetery Party"]

*Souvenir tiny Ohio Lottery windshield scrapers given out to first 50 guests.

**I've been on a ghost tour in Charleston. Most of the tour was about the history and buildings making up the lore, not dedicated to trying to convince you there are actual ghosts wandering the streets of Charleston...I mean other than Bill Murray after the Cubs lose in the NLCS.

Yea I've been on them in Athens, Philly, Savannah, Charleston, NYC, and Gatlinburg, TN. It's 80% about historic buildings and what happened there and 20% of the "oh yeah, here's a fun ghost story about it too."

Would you like to revise and extend that remark?

I stand by it. The Cubs will not win the NLCS.

(I once told a co-worker that Eli Manning would never win a Super Bowl. Instead of admitting defeat — twice — I still maintain he'll never win one.)

Nah, merely a spiritual advisor and pet-carrier consigliere.

We all love OCF (seriously) and he wouldn't be an icon without his crankiness!

I love his stance on Eli Manning!

Thread entitled 'Most Haunted'--I thought this was about the choice between Trump and Clinton.
