I made the trip down to Athens Friday to hit up a Jackie O's bottle release. Picked up the collaboration with Evil Twin Brewing 'You're In The Jungle Baby' Imperial Stout and the 'Quatrefoil' sour. Tasty brews. What all are you guys drinking from Jackie O's, Little Fish, and/or Devil's Kettle?

Now THIS is what I call a thread!! 😁

I’ve been having Jackie O’s Ohio Pale Ale, which is delicious. Apparently it’s a seasonal beer (according to Jackie O’s website). If you like a milder IPA, I highly recommend it.

Edit: It’s available at Heinen’s if you live in the Cleveland area.

The OPA is a seasonal. I actually had a glass of it when I picked up my other bottles.

Haven't seen it on offer in a while, but Meigs County Black (Black IPA) is probably my favorite. If that's not available, Devil's Kettle has a lot of delightful dark malty beers that always* put me in an Oktoberfest-y mood

*I say "always", but I've only been there once

OPA is wonderful. It used to be a regular production beer but is now seasonal. If you're in the Cincinnati area you can find it at Higher Gravity in Northside.

Another great IPA at Jackie O's is Who Cooks For You.

Usually go to Athens in mid November for the Varsity Show.

Haven't been there in a couple of years.

Always looked forward to Jackie O's "Barking Pumpkin".

I like Jackie O's Ricky. It's kind of a mild beer, and I'm kind of a mild guy, despite what might be said about me in some quarters of BA. I also like Jackie O's Firefly and Chomolungma, the latter of which I've never really figured out how to pronounce correctly.

When the weather turns nice, I'm a big fan of Little Fish because it's just a good spot to hang out at. I haven't made it there this 'Athens season' unfortunately.

My favs from there are Little Harvey's Milk Stout and Woodthrush.

I like all three breweries, but for the actual beer Devil's Kettle is my favorite. Cameron makes classic European styles really well while Jackie O's excels in hoppy beers and Little Fish does saisons and sours best. They're all good, and it's worth remembering Kelly's efforts at the Cider House.

Mystic Mama is a very solid IPA that you can find most places in Columbus and when faced with a choice, I'm usually supporting my Athens peeps. The also had a hazy IPA called Sea Foam in the Fall and I hope they bring it back. The other hazy one someone mentioned is pretty good as well. Looking forward to visiting the other brewers before the Athens Half Marathon in a couple weeks.

Yes, if I'm going to carb load before running, it might as well be with beer.

(Yes, I realize this is counterproductive, but the same strategy yielded a PR last year)

I have only made it to Devil's Kettle a few times. I think the main reason is that they have limited hours compared to Little Fish and Jackie O's. Little Fish and Jackie O's both opened at 11am Friday while Devil's Kettle did not open until 4pm. I do like that all 3 breweries offer different options although Jackie O's does offer the widest variety.

Little Fish now has a kitchen and a good chef. Not a fan of all the hops in beers today. Reminds me of the over oaked chardonnay of the 80s and 90s. Ecllipse is probably my favorite because of the number and variety of offerings plus their outdoor seating and entertainment venue. The food truck at Devils Kettle (same chef as Little Fish) is also outstanding.

The Ciderhouse is phenomenal. If I lived in Athens, I'd be there a few times a week.

Adding to what Jackie O's does really, really well in my opinion: Imperial Stouts, and barrel aged beers. They did a barrel aged Chomo this past winter that was dynamite!

Just had tacos and Kalsarikannit Baltic Porter at Little Fish the other day. Two home runs there.

Shout out to Ricky, a great american style lager.

I'll throw in a plug for Little Fish (and a shameless one for my wife) here. Great dudes, and my home brewing wife really enjoyed making beer with them.

That batch is of course long gone, but if anyone's in Cleveland, they one of her collaboration beers at Hansa House right now. It's a pale ale called SMASH the Glass Ceiling.

If you are looking for Little Fish and Jackie O's bottles in the Columbus area, specifically limited bottle releases, Crafted Drafts in Hilliard and Gahanna carries them. When I was there yesterday, they already had Jackie O's bottle releases from last Friday.

Not an Athens brewery, but it was just announced that Morgan County will be building their first (hopefully only) brewery. I know some folks here live close to the Morgan County line and some venture to the hidden gem that is Boondocks. Cool thing for a small town!

Why do you hope it’s the only brewery in that county?

If the Morgan County brewery is the old Chevy garage, that has been in the works for well over a year.

Have you been to Morgan county? The saying less is more applies here. I think only one can be sustainable and put out a good product.

I believe it is in fact going in to the old Gutberlet lot.. That was always the rumor but now they have a name and opening date. Nice to see the rumors coming to fruition. Spring of 2020 you can enjoy a brew along the beautiful Muskingum River!

I have a weekend place on the Malta side about halfway to Stockport (before the round house). If you see a Bobcat flag, pull in the driveway, There is always some cold adult beverage in the frig.

An electrician friend who did some work for me last fall was then working in the brewery building.

Other things going on include the work being done in the theater. I also heard that once the new bridge upgrade and roundabouts are done that the steel bridge is going to be for pedestrian and bicycles.

There was once talk of small hydro plants being built at the dams along the river but I have lost track of that initiative.

Breweries are unique though as several in a low population can make it as long as they can get distribution outside of their region. Plus there are opportunities to collaborate with peers. A good example is Jackie O's and Little Fish collaborating.
