Anyone know why the old Howard Hall was torn down? (I think I have the name right.) It was on the corner of College and Union, just across the street from the old Baker Center. it is now an empty lot and has been since it was torn down, which I gather was 1976. I've never known the why behind this story.

From what I'v been able to find, when O.U. built the new dorms on the South and West Greens,Howard Hall wasn't needed,so it was demolished.
I guess it was cheaper then trying to repurpose it.

It's a shame nothing was built to replace it. It made for a nice street scape as seen here: https://media.library.ohio.edu/digital/collection/archive...

That's the reason I recall hearing. BTW, the original bobkitten mascot lived in Howard. She became a lifelong friend and is profiled in my Mascot, Minister, Man of Steel. With that warm memory in mind, I donated to the creation of the Howard Hall Site park.
