This was in my private message today on bobcatattack:

My name is Mrs Sue saunders from UK, I am a widow and an orphan, I lost my husband 5 years ago, before then I was diagnosed with cancer, the reason why I am here on this wonderful site is because I want to see how best I can touch lives positively.

Before my husband died he left behind 8.3 million USD which he saved in an account with one UBA Bank in Liberia, because that was were he worked as one of the chief engineer in one of the biggest gold and diamond mine, the reason why I am saying all this is because my doctor says I have very limited time so please I want you to know that this message to you is not just a blessing to you but your family and others, the reason why I said this is because I have decided to choose you as my next of kin, I want you to use those funds for the following reasons.

1 donate to the orphanage homes
2. Help the less privilege
3 help the widows and widowers
4. Help children who have lost their parents during this Coronavirus crisis.

If we don't do this the bank top officials will share the money amongst themselves once I am gone because they know I am a widow and an orphan, so if I don't present someone as my next of kin they will use that opportunity to divide and miss use my husband's hard earned money.

Please kindly contact my lawyer his name is Barrister John Adamu his email address is: jjadamus9@gmail.com
When you contact him make sure you include this code 216798sue this is the only way he will attend to you, this is because of the high rate of scammers and money laundering people on the Internet.

He will also give you more details, I am sorry I have to stop here cos I am getting weak, this is the longest message I have wrote in a while now, stay blessed

That's a bit disappointing. I thought I was the lucky one based on the PM I received and was making plans on how to spend my new-found wealth.

Believe it of not,I still get a couple of faxes a week, from lawyers telling me I have the same last name as someone in __________ who has no identifiable heirs.

So I have the right to claim their estate . . .

They can't be fake, because the lawyers' letter say this is legit and legal.

I'm pretty sure it must be legit, as I got the same offer. I'm too busy lately to get involved in researching and donating to orphanages and so forth, however, so I'll leave that to someone else. Usually I get offers that don't require so much work. I'm not important enough to ever hear from Nigerian princes, though. All I get is emails from some low level employee working in the department of Insurance, who knows about a big pool of money that has no heirs, and he wants it for himself, but it is willing to give me a cut. He knows he can trust me, because he's heard of my excellent reputation.

Doesn't she first need to hit her Ohio Bobcat Club spending level to even engage with you? I think there's a Nigerian Level.

Sue Saunders Field at Peden Stadium has a nice ring to it. "The Sue."

Saunders is a well known name in the Athens African American community. I knew both Ron and Phil growing up, and their father Herpel was the auto mechanic that my father preferred to have work on his cars. Perhaps this lady is related. She couldn’t be prevaricating because all the Saunders family members that I knew were honorable and trustworthy people. So, I’d say go for it, and simply make it Saunders Field to honor the whole family. Phil BTW marched on that field many times as the drum major for the band.

I get these all the time in emails and faxes. I was very surprised one found me on this site. Maybe she likes my rendition of “Send in the Clowns”!

That these scams ever work is baffling. Until you stop to think about how many Americans don't believe the Earth is round and remember that there are literally millions of people who buy into crazy theories like QAnon.

Most people want something for nothing. I understand my late mother-in-law was like that just about all her life. Late in life she was repeatedly suckered by some Jamaicans who would call her promising to send her thousands if she sent them hundreds. They hooked into her because she was lonely and they would spend a lot of time flirting with her and joking with her. Once they got her confidence, they turned to threats, which scared her. We tried our best to protect her from them but unless you can get someone like her declared completely incompetent, there's only so much you can do. It's really sad, especially because most of those who get scammed are people who can afford it the least.

Late in life, my mother (bless her memory)got hooked by both Publisher's Clearing House Reader's Digest. Once I was able to obtain a POA, and with the help of a high school classmate (now an attorney) I was able to put a stop to it.

During this period, the Ohio AG actually filed suit against Publisher's Clearing House and I was able to recoup some of the funds she had 'invested' in their contests.

If you have senior parents, please look after them. There are vultures everywhere. If you are a senior and have trustworthy family or close friends, talk to them with a financial planner and attorney and come up with some strategies regarding safeguarding your assets.

My ex worked at Athens National Bank before it became Chase here in Athens. The amount of little old ladies withdrawing massive amounts of money constantly was jaw dropping. The bank would try to sometimes have their attorney come over to help them. Of course, the attorney would try to talk the little old lady from sending fifty thousand off to the nice young man in Canada...sigh. It was nonstop and more than a few hundreds of thousands were sent off by a variety of elderly folks. This is just one bank so think of how it was going on across the USA.
Another scam though is the POA. My ex knew an attorney for a elderly man. Every week, the man was charged 5,000 for legal work which was non existent. The attorney drained off close to a million in three years. Bank could do nothing about it since it was all legal. Anyone remember the Buzz Ball indictments? Same stuff and at least Buzz was caught.

Also beware of door to door salespeople, who descend on neighborhoods that have lots of elderly residents. Mulch salesmen, gardeners, tree companies ("you have a big tree limb that's ready to fall on your house"), roofers, sidewalk repairers, etc. They all deserve a special place in hell. My mother fell prey to "Reverend Mike the Mulch Man" two straight years. You pay $150 up front, the mulch never gets delivered.
