The video from the supreme court is not what i saw. Go do your research the estimate was over 50K in property damage. There were capital officers injured and took to the hospital that day. And their were people arrested.

On the video i saw there were men with crow bard and axes. But of course it was just a peaceful protest. My point was about them being close to the same was that in both instances most of the protesters were peaceful but their were a few to set out bad things.

I didn't really read a lot of the comments you guys transparently have a lot more free time on your hands then i do. I work 55 to 65 hours most weeks since the pandemic began. I come here to read a little sports and relax a little bit.
i am not going to try and go look up some link to a news story from 2 or 3 years ago.

By the way i haven't heard anyone bashing the ABC or CNN people who say what we need is a good cleansing.

You guys have fun debating with yourselves i don't have time for this. I got way more productive comments out of congressmen then i disagree with then you over this topic. Both of them democrats that sort of agreed that their party and rhetoric of the media has to account for their part in dismissing others views.

Can you find the video and share it? You're trying to draw an equivalency between two events and aren't providing any supporting evidence. That's sort of a perfect summation of how the two parties have become so divided. No shared set of facts. Showing why you believe what you believe's important, no? I'd personally be super interested to see the protesters with crow bars and axes, and it would change my opinion were I able to find it. Not seeing anything on Google, either.

To summarize, "I don't have time to read what you say, or engage with it, and I can't get productive comments out of you."

I wonder why this isn't productive. I mean, after all, you've put 0 minutes of thought into it, acknowledged you didn't read what others said and then insulted them.

And we're only "debating ourselves" because all of our conservative posters are avoiding this thread like the plague, and you're refusing actual debate.

I think we all know why.

Here's the thing with equivocating what journalists say and what Trump says or what a celebrity who is a Democrat says and what the president says. I remember when people tried to equate acts by a celebrity who showed a fake severed head of Trump with what he had done. Here's the reason those things are not equal...I've never supported or voted for those journalists or celebrities. I don't feel a need to answer for every act done by somebody who supports similar politicians. I don't feel that the self-identified Republicans need to answer for the rioters and insurrectionists from last week. However, they need to answer for their politicians that they voted for.

If Ron Johnson, Josh Hawley, or Ted Cruz are your senators and you voted for them, then yes, their sins reflect on you. If you voted for Donald Trump, then his sins from last week do need to be answered for or rebuked. But if Tucker Carlson says something incredibly ignorant (which is pretty often the case), that doesn't require defense from the average Republican.

Question for any lawyers/legal minds out there:

--If you and I rob a bank together, thus committing a felony, and you kill an officer or an individual in the process, we can both be charged with capital murder.

--So, what prevents the government from charging all of the individuals that broke into the Capitol last week with the murder of Officer Brian Sicknick?

The applicable law in your example is a felony murder statute. If someone dies during the commission of a felony (even from a heart attack brought on by the crime), then all those who took part in committing the crime can be charged with murder. A lot of the charges I've seen so far against the rioters are misdemeanor-type charges: trespassing, unlawful entry, destruction of federal property, etc. As the FBI gathers evidence, it's likely that some felony charges will be brought -- like sedition, attempted kidnapping, attempted murder, and even murder for the person who actually swung the fire extinguisher. With hundreds of arrests expected they should focus on those who meant to do harm. A felony murder charge for those who merely wandered around the Capitol would be tricky to prosecute. Some of them were just goofballs who posed for pictures with statues and had no real intent to harm anybody or commit a felony. These dodos already face considerable prison times and fines, and convictions can be pretty easy. But those who came prepared to do damage and hurt people can and should be tried for felony murder. They had real intent to commit a felony.

My spelling is really that bad. I graduated from a Gallia county school. but attended about 5 different schools growing up in west Virginia and Ohio.

The scary thing is i have a bachelors degree in Human resources Development. Specializing in curriculum development and vocational education. So i could be responsible for all kinds of instructions in manuals that you find hard to read.

If i don't proof read and spell check and grammar check, my writing can be atrocious. Luckily when I speak I don't sound nearly as dumb as when i write.

I'd put my English background in the Akron Public Schools from 1960 to 1973 up against most. We caught the tail end of the last great American public classical education. A language was introduced in 5th grade, 9th grade English was two periods long and included debate, mythology, short stories, public speaking, and what seemed like years and years of grammar and the era of mini-courses had not yet begun. My guess is that the curriculum is not nearly as rigorous today (it's not in many of the schools that I worked in).

There's a big difference between the riots of last summer and the treason that occurred last Wednesday. Last summer was spurred by a series of murders of people who were killed largely -- and even solely -- because of the color of their skin. The demonstrations, which were mostly peaceful across the country, and the riots that followed were the culmination of about 400 years of treating Black people as less than human. No one condoned the riots. But they were understandable. People get fed up with total strangers using racial slurs, detaining them on the street, accusing them of crimes and pointing guns at them, simply because of the color of their skin. We've had civil rights laws in this country for more than 50 years but Black people still face discrimination by police and other elected officials.

The treason of last Wednesday was the result of four years of constant lying by the current occupant of the White House and his enablers. Repeatedly during the past four years Trump has said that the ONLY way he could lose an election is if it were rigged. He is such a narcissistic egomaniac that he might actually believe it. So he perpetrated the lie that he lost only because of vote fraud. But people like Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley and Lindsey Graham didn't believe it but still echoed the lie, despite the fact that no credible evidence had been presented to show widespread fraud. Graham said as much on the floor of the Senate The Wednesday night. The senators and representatives who spread the lie did so merely to make political capital -- they were courting Trump supporters. They knew it was a lie but were afraid of incurring Trump's ire -- and the loss of votes in the next election -- if they didn't go along with it. They should be kicked out of Congress, or at least censured.

The fact is, both Trump and some of those who broke into the Capitol were just using each other. Trump plays to the fears of many people for his own gain. He doesn't really care about them -- before he ran for office he would call such people losers and suckers. And he got them to do his dirty work, just as he always has with people like Michael Cohen and Rudy Giuliani. On Wednesday he told them he would march with them to the Capitol, but didn't. He instead sat in the White House gleefully watching his supporters commit federal crimes and put themselves in harm's way. On the other hand, subversive groups like the so-called Proud Boys used Trump as a means to further their racist and hate-filled messages. Thanks to Trump, they were able to have thousands more marching with them than they could on their own.
Of course he didn't care about them. All of his BS about "loving" poor people, uneducated people, coal miners, etc etc - was a con. How often did you see any photos of him playing golf or dining on lobster at Mar-a-Lago with poor uneducated coal miners? He just wanted to sell them his made in China merch and get them to donate money they couldn't afford to part with.

trump = BOGUS

It's largely because The Big Lie will likely take a long time to fade away. This is from a story about the Monmouth Poll that was conducted January 21-24, two weeks after the attempted coup:

The Monmouth poll found that roughly one-third (32%) of Americans still believed fraud was the cause of Trump’s defeat. Sixty-five percent agreed Biden won the election “fair and square.” Of the Republicans surveyed, 72% said they believe Biden won due to fraud. About 10% said they would never accept Biden as president despite that he was already sworn in.

Saw that poll too. Combine that with this map of Ohio including your own Licking County and you're right, it may take a long while.

Today, all but 5 GOP Senators voted to dismiss impeachment charges.

The GOP will, yet again, refuse to hold their own accountable. Just a bunch of cowards without a shred of allegiance to anything but their own careers. They're so afraid of a primary challenge and the completely delusional 72% of Trump voters who think that the election was stolen, that they're going to let a US President get away with trying to steal an election.

And they'll probably nominate him to run again, too.

The inmates are actually running the asylum on the right these days. It's a party of conspiracies now.

At least Hawley lost his book deal.

On the other hand, the book (unlike the entire "R" party and him in particular) would have had a spine.

Sometimes i wonder what questions pollster are asking people or how they interpret peoples answers. One of my coworkers goat call from a pollster the other day. They asked who he voted for as president he said Trump. They asked him how confident he was in the election results. He answered like was third or fourth choice which was he had some questions about some issues in some states. The next question was will you ever except Biden as your president since you think the election was stolen.

He told the poster he didn't think the election was stolen he said he believed Biden won but had some questions about the voting in Arizona and Georgia. the pollster told him he would be listed as did not respond to survey because his answers didst fit the model?

the poll was from NBC/wallstreet journal i do believe is what they said.

Sounds like the RNC poll I received two weeks ago. Totally invalid questions, I laughed at them.

Saying "I have some questions" is just a diplomatic way of saying "I bought a bunch of snake oil from dishonest Republicans, just not as much as some other people."

These polls tell us a lot about the extent to which critical thinking skills have atrophied in America. Anybody who "has some questions" believes there's fraud. Just not enough to overturn the results.

They're still expressing a belief that fraud occurred, despite the complete lack of evidence in support of that.
