Very classy indeed!

Through a drawing I had the opportunity to play golf in a foursome with Coach O’Shea during an Athens Area Chamber of Commerce event, probably about 15 years ago or so. In my experience, I found him to be rather engaging and personable. Of course, this was just “a day in the life” but it was enough that it has caused me to take some of the comments about him with a “grain of salt”.

I had several interactions with O’Shea and I have nothing negative to say about them.

I saw Tim a fair amount, his daughter was at the Child Development Center with my oldest and he did some of the dropping off and picking up, I would run into him and the family out and about and I also played ball with him at Ping. He was always easy to talk with and I appreciated getting to know his family a little bit. Same with Groce and Saul, whose youngest was on my youngest's baseball team and Saul coached. Daughter and wife very much caring members of our community which was great.

Saul and his wife were awesome in the community. Nicole Phillips is one of the best motivational speakers you’ll ever meet.

This is where I hate small towns. Introverts are made out to be evil. I’ve enjoyed masks so I don’t have to fake smile at every person in the world when I just got done with a 10-hour shift. I understand a basketball coach is a public figure, but not everybody is the life of the party.

I thought we all knew the TOS we created on here was an SNL character, right? It wasn’t the actual person. I thought we were all in on the joke.

Maybe now we could finally retire “TOS to...”? Coach O’Shea was actually here a fairly significant number of years and did take us to “the dance”. I’m sure we could come up with another, more deserving candidate if we wanted to do so. ;)

If you were here at the time you'd know the history of this little bit of humor. TOS was applying for every head coaching job on the East Coast. In one span hardly a went by without his name popping up on some new list. The "TOS to" threads are not meant with any disrespect. It's just a funny little thing we do to remind us of those days. I suspect TOS himself would find it a little funny.

OCF, I was aware of this. I guess I just felt that if he was truly desperate to get out all of that time he would have, at the very least, settled for an assistant job earlier in his time in Athens at a larger program in, or near, the area where he wanted to live. I would be surprised if he didn’t have the connections to do that. I guess to determine whether or not there is any disrespect perceived he’d have to be asked. Maybe he thinks it’s funny, maybe not. You may be right but I have no idea.

There was an interview with him in the last year where he mentioned this board as being particularly tough, but he said it in good spirits. He was well aware of some of the things said here.

"TOS to" is probably this site's best meme. Do we have any others?

I know I was younger and that was a different, more harsh internet era (believe it or not as bad as we think it is now, that early internet era was rooouugh), but there’s a lot of dumb stuff I said I’d take back.

The guy was a really, really good D1 basketball player and was a top assistant. We were pretty merciless.

But I’ll never apologize for noting he looked like Mr. Burns when he clapped.

Huh? Care to explain why you claim this? I'll admit I never saw him play at BC, but his D1 stats don't seem to back up this statement? In his later years his game at Ping was not spectacular.

Not here to dunk on anyone, but I "invented the TOS to...." headline. 100% fact and not in the Al Gore sort of way. It was after the Quinnipiac fiasco. It was becoming a joke how rapidly he was interviewing for lesser jobs in the cover of darkness.

It stays. Judge/jury/executioner have ruled.

Too bad Rollie's videos suffered the great data loss of 2010. I remember an interview with Jerome Tillman and TOS airballed a layup in the background.

The only negative interaction I had with TOS was during his first summer in Athens when he held a basketball camp for young kids, my 2 sons included.

On day 1, he organized the campers into 5-6 teams, each of which were aligned with a Big East program. When I asked why he didn't choose MAC programs, or at the very least Ohio, he responded, "Never thought of it."

This was flyover country to him. He accepted the job only after multiple, increasingly lucrative offers from the idiot Tom Boeh.

That's not analogous to TOS. If you were on HornedFrogAttack.com you might be able to start the "JPC TO...." thread and it would be similar to "TOS To..."

TOS was always looking lateral-to or below Ohio. Say what you want, but at least Christian was looking for upward mobility from Kent and Ohio.

Exactly, O’Shea averaged 1.2 PPG in his 4 year career! For a Grand Total of 135 career points. How he failed to get drafted, I will always wonder.

I wrote that terribly.

I think everybody who played or plays D1 is a really, really good basketball player. I understand why what I wrote is head scratching. My apology.

My point was when I started at OU and looked at our basketball coach, I didn’t think there was any way in the world he had played beyond junior high. I yapped at him on here as if I was talking about a man who won a lottery to coach the team.

Because I was an idiot.

The point was not “How good at BC was Tim O’Shea?” The point was “Why the hell did I think it was okay to be yelling at an experienced person, on the internet, like it was my job?” The answer to that question informs the world pretty well over the last 10 years.

I believe it was our old friend oubobcatjohn who was rambling with confidence about the offensive options we had at our disposal...and he wrapped it all up with that beautiful statement, which we then referenced all season long and beyond.

interesting I remember someone drinking beer at the Cat's Eye attributing it to OUVan.
