Welter has some Ohio connections. Solich signed Welter's dad to play at Nebraska. His dad's roommate at Nebraska...Ohio offensive line coach Kevin Lightner.

Thank you for the info. I feel much better about this verbal holding up knowing about the connections than I did after reading his interviews about wanting to stay on the West Coast!

Ted, you should start a quarterly Ohio insider magazine/paper.  I would be lost on the recruiting trail without you.

A buddy of mine ran into him the Vegas airport tonight.  He was on his way back to Cali from Athens.  Said he seems like a great guy and is excited to play for the Bobcats.

Is this one of the best recruits (obviously without seeing him play a down in College) that Frank and his staff have picked up since they got here?  I can't remember many others who came in this highly touted with interest from that many high profile schools.

As far as I can tell there are only two other Non AQ schools with a guard pickup of this caliber already (Utah and Houston each have 2).

Who else would be on a top 10 list of highly touted high school kids to join the program in the last 6 years?

Jacob Welter and Monte Vista kick off the season this Friday hosting Serra.  Serra is 0-1 after losing 45-7 to perinniel powerhouse and Monte Vista EBAL conference mate De La Salle.  De La Salle is Travis Carrie's former school.

Monte Vista is predicted to finish 2nd in the EBAL by the Contra Costa Times, behind De La Salle.

The San Francisco chronicle named Jacob the 19th top prep player in the bay area.  Also making the list of interest was 5. Blake Renaud of De La Salle (Ohio offer, Boise verbal), and 8. Dylan Wynn of De La Salle (Ohio offer, Oregon State verbal).

Edit: The San Francsico Chroncile Week 2 Top 25 has Monte Vista at #6.  Serra, after their loss to #1 De La Salle drops from 19 to 21.
