With the class starting to fill up, the game of musical chairs should begin soon, with players racing to accept their offers and take the last few spaces in the class. This is going to be Solich's best class at Ohio when it's done.

We have one of the best RB's in the state in this class in Hammonds from Solon. We're also welcoming a transfer from Iowa State (Blankenship) and return 7 others. We have been light in RB's in the past, but how many do you need in a one  running back offense?

If we have zero WR's in this class it will not bother me one bit. WR is the deepest and most talented position on OUr team. I count about 15 returning from last year's roster with names like Brazil.... Dunlap....Bussey....Foster...etc.

To me the cherry on this sundae will be the QB. I think we're waiting on an answer from Derrius Vick, but in the waiting period have entertained some equally talented QB's. Vick is going to Nebraska next week and in lieu of an offer from them may get something like a preferred walk-on status...will be up to him to choose....my bet would be that he comes here.

And that's the way that you should look at it.

I think for these last few slots it's almost best player available.....if you have to pick between an impact lineman or a so-so RB then I think you go with the impact player.

I'm not sure how many schollies we have left but if it's 3 I wouldn't mind a QB....a RB...and a CB.

Individual classes don't each need to be perfectly rounded. Some years there is a lot of talent available at one position, so you stock up. Sooner or later things average out, though. The last few years recruiting has been very light at DE, where ideally you'd take 2 a year, more or less, since you need at least 4-5 in rotation. In 2008 there was only one, Scott. In 2009 the only one was a gray-shirt, Nic Barber. In 2010 they added onl y a transfer, Kyle Kozak.  What happens when you go three years with very light recruiting at one position? Well, first of all it becomes a recruiting priority. Secondly it becomes tempting to recruits since they see that they may be able to come right in and play. Next thing you know, you plug the hole with some great recruits. That's what we're seeing with the DE recruits in this class.

In dubbing this Solich's best class at Ohio, here's a reason to back that statement up. We can start by comparing the average Rivals ratings:
2006 - 5.09

Of course, Rivals doesn't have any real stake, and there could be general grade inflation. So, let's look at different data, the number of schools kids turned down to accept Ohio offers, on average:
2006 - .8
2007 - .9
2008 - 1.9
2009 - 1.5
2010 - 1.3
2011(so far) - 2.8

I think you can see why I think this looks like it will be a great class.

I agree about the value of redshirting, Bcat2.  But we are thin at d-line so some of those guys are pretty likely to see the field.

We're okay at running back.  But my face likes us to have that 2-running back set out there fairly often, with one of the movers being 215 or more lbs--230 or more lbs does not scare me either.

Speaking of this year's class, or any year's for that matter.  Anyone know why recruiting services like Rivals list and rank JUCO transfers, but fail to include D1 ransfers in their reckoning?  I know you can check the year they were recruited by by the previous institution and get the star rating at that time. Why then is that player and rating not carried over to the transfer university and listed among that year's class?   For example, Roback, Blankenship, Prior, Kozak.

Because they do not count as recruits, nor do they sign NLI's.

When I checked yesterday, Scout had us 93 in the nation, 7th in the MAC (10 commits). Rivals has us 5th in the MAC.    Not so good, but they didn't have several of our guys-maybe they had everybody else-not likely.  Looks like a normal year to me, except as LC says we're getting more competitive guys as far as offers.  Also more 3 star guys than normal-that may be a grade inflation as well..
