Here is something I found via quick search. This young man apparently participated in some kind of camp/showcase over in Chillicothe in early May.

http://nucfootball.blogspot.com/2010/05/wells-talents-top-columbus-combine.html

I'm happy to have a player from my alma mater commit to Ohio. As noted in the pre-data crash thread, the last Stebbins grad to suit up for Ohio that I recall is Riz Buckman. He played in the same HS backfield as Jamal Robertson who ended up at Ohio Northern and later the NFL.

There haven't been a lot of D-1 football guys who've  come out of Stebbins. I recall Bill Long (back-up to OSU's Rex Kern as a senior and visible animal rights activiist here in Columbus), Willie Wilson (all Big Ten DB at Indiana) and Brent White (DL at Michigan).

Four Future Bobcats in the mix before the start of fall camp. Two from Northeast Ohio and two from Southwest Ohio. Kudos to the coaching staff, interesting that all four are Ohio kids.

Watching Ian's highlight video evokes recollections of the word Coach Solich used a lot as he endeavored to change the culture of Ohio football: Relentless!  Whether toting the loaf himself or pursuing an opponent with it. Relentless!

Ian and Stebbins begin their season Friday night at West Carrollton.  West Carrollton went 8-3 in 2009, while Stebbins obviously suffered an 0-10 season as mentioned in the links above.

I was at Dublin Scioto's 17-7 win over Hilliard Bradley last night when a text came in from Ted that Stebbins snapped the streak witha 21-9 win over the Pirates. Congrats to Ian, his teammates and coaches. Now it's time to build something.

Scioto's Jamare Mills, who is uncommitted but has offers from Duke and Minnesota among others, had a nice night against an outsized Bradley. He is listed as 6-5/250 and is playing tight end and defensive tackle. He had a few catches, including one in traffic and another where he had to lay out and snag it off the turf. I look forward to seeing the Irish play at perennial D-II state qualifier Columbus Marion-Franklin next Friday night.

I went to the game last night to check out Wells. I've never seen a team so excited to win a game. They gave their coach a Gatorade bath at the end, very cool.

Wells is asked to do a lot. Running back, safety, kick returner, punt returner, kick and punt coverage. He may have sat out 3 plays in the entire game last night. As Mike mentioned, scored Stebbins' first TD on a quick pitch. Set up their second TD after catching a long pass. Didn't make any huge plays on defense but was in on a lot of tackles. I don't think he was real comfortable on D as he was consistently looking to the sidelines for positioning. As he gets more comfortable, I would expect more plays. The athleticism is there. Well put together kid with excellent speed.

Stebbins has had some coaching issues along the way. Some good kids lost interest but some others stayed the course. He is one. This coach has them at least in the right direction.  I think Ian was a find and will be a solid player. Hope they get some more wins.

Tough sledding ahead for the Indians -- I think every opponent after the Chieftains has a winning record. I heard from a buddy that Ian Wells has been out the last couple of weeks with an injury and will not be back until October 15. I'll try to confirm.
