of the positive seeds that Ohio has planted since the hiring of FS. We have a great group coming in and it looks like several will have an immediate impact.
Even though we have lost our bowl games and haven't looked very impressive at times, the overall program is on the rise. Nothing breeds success like success.
Great job staff!

Success breed success and I'm sure seeing consistent members of the staff here at Ohio helps sway some of those being recruited.  They come for more than the recent success, the pretty campus and good looking coeds and I bet liking their position and head coach is part of it.  If Ohio wins the the MAC the next two years and wins the bowl opportunities the recruits have a comfort level to know in the third year FS and company will still be here.  Whereas if Miami does the same the next two years their coach will be off to fry bigger fish and the players are left to deal with the new personalities/tyrant.  On the other hand they could run into the Ball State situation where a freshman would have played for Hoke and two others--not really an exciting prospect when you compare it to what has been going on in Athens.

So if you say success breed success, I'll agree and add one in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Haser, Bennett, Hammonds, were all just upgraded on Scout to 3 Star prospects.  Welter  has been a 3 star commit all along on Scout.  Crutcher, Smith, Davis are all also 3 star commits although not listed as committed yet and I think they all may have also received a bump up to 3 stars.   That's 7 thus far at that rating on Scout, I think that might be the highest ever.

I don't recall any of our recruits being upgraded after committing in the past.   Possibly some were even downgraded.

The only bummer with all these commitments being publicized is there may not be too many surprises on signing day, which is one of my favorite parts of the big day.  I've got my fingers crossed for a couple big time, late commitments to join what seems to be an excellent class.

I remember the old days when we didn't know the names of hardly anyone before signing day.....and yes usually I was surprised......surprised how crappy a class we had compared to others.

From what I've read I'm surprised that Ben Russell was not a 3 star also.

I like the looks of what we've gotten so far, but two big questions for me are still the quarterback position and also have we really upgraded team speed enough to compete with teams like Troy who outmatched us in that bowl game?

I would have to think the new student union is also a big recruting factor. That and the new south green dorm where the football players will be sitting. The staff has been pretty intact going on 7 years now and I don't see anything chaning soon.

The part of this recruiting season I love the most is how well Ohio has done in MAC recruiting battles this season. Ohio has an amazing 8-0 record head-to-head against traditional MAC power Toledo in the recruiting wars. It sounds like a lot of 3 or 4 star guys are signing for us this season and those are the types of players programs like Boise State or WVU built their top 10 teams on. Its time for this program to elevate to that next level.

Speaking of results.....after one year, how about a review of the class of 2010 by someone in the know?  Obviously one Leftwich played significant minutes, what about the others that last year at this time folks were excited about--give those like me that don't follow quite as closely a review--who played, who red shirted, who left the program, who looks to contribute in the fall.  Doc?  Anyone else?  Then after spring ball perhaps another look.

Bell was just moved up to a 71 rating from a 45 on ESPN and up to QB#124 (from 140 I think.)  Whatever, I have never seen him that high on any recruiting site. This all must be some kind of last minute adjustments by several sources.

45 is the rating that ESPN assigns when the recruit is still being evaluated.  They use it to differentiate between recruits listed as 40s, which indicates there is no evaluation pending.

Ngoumou broke his ankle in fall camp. Had awesome speed. I think he has 3 years to play 3 years.

An uniformed guess would be that he used some eligibility playing basketball elsewhere.  However, I believe he still had four years of football available to him.

That's right. He started at Seminole State in 2009 which starts the clock on his 5 years to complete 4 years of eligibility. He didn't play football there which meant he arrived at Ohio with 4 academic years to complete 4 years of football eligibility. Basically, he was a redshirt freshman this past year. Three more years with the Bobcats.

In the years I have been following Ohio football, no recruit has ever been downgraded after Ohio began recruiting him. No year has gone by when there weren't numerous upgrades. When I started reading this site, there were a lot of comments about this, so I tracked it for awhile. For example, in 2006 Scout upgraded McCrae, while Rivals upgraded Hubbard, Hodge, McCrae, Price, Ballard, and Black. In 2007 Keller, Flading, Dunlop, Clark and Gonzalese-Santos got upgrades. In 2008 Bussey, Britain, Moore, Scott, Thompson, Weaver, Huynh, and Carlotta got upgrades. After that I was satisfied that there wasn't any discrimination going on. Interestingly, the players who did get upgraded have almost all done very well, except for a few that were hampered by injuries. Therefore its good to see a lot of this class getting upgrades, too.

Reading bios on current and returning football players I am seeing majors like biology and intergrated mathmatics. Come on coach, what kind of a football team are we running here? Seriously, this is standard Solich. I think coach would trade a win or two to have a team he can be proud of in the classroom. Wonder what the majors will be for these hot recruits?

Funny just the other day someone was throwing another school under the bus for the same issue while touting the high standards of our athletes and their degrees. Funny how different people view the same information.

John, to clarify, I am for the "student" in the student/athlete. I am most proud of the Academic All-Americans and do expect Ohio to recruit men who will take full advantage of their oportunities in the classroom. I do hope these recruits, every one, graduate with an education that will insure their success outside of foootball. In the long run I believe more success is achieved recruiting smarter young men. Sometimes you will simply be out-athleted, but, that will happen anyway.

I don't disagree with you, if you notice I said at the end it is funny how people look at things differently.

I find it interesting that a few schools have fallen on hard times and it closely follows those schools increasing the admission standards of 1st years students. Also funny that with this you are seeing the rise of SEC dominance, a conference with traditionally lax standards for 1st year student-athletes.
