Looks like he'll be a grayshirt situation and not on scholarship until after the 2011 season.

You need to watch his video....yeah I know....SE Ahia....crappy competition.....blah blah blah....but my 3 year and 6 year grandsons and I had fun this afternoon watchin his video and soon to visit Athens Lucas Powell (with some pancakes) and we loved Grant's video and his ability.....my bet is that he'll earn that scholarship.

As far as punting goes, I'm not sure how much competition level really matters.

True......but he looks athletic and with his size (6'4") might develop into a decent tight end.

Arguably the best athlete on his high school team who just happens to be a nationally ranked punter. Coaches told him if he committed, as a greyshirt, they wouldn't recruit any other punter. Hershey has one season left then the job would be his. He has the size and skills to possibly play another position but my guess is he will stay as a punter. Rumor is Texas A&M was set to offer a full ride but he wanted to stay close to home.

I've actually been very pleased with our punting/place kicking game ever since Zastudil was here.  A lot of solid kickers have come through and hopefully the trend will continue.  I would image that with Grant's size already and after another year in the weight room, his distance and hang time will only improve further.

If I had a nickle for ever ...So and so was about to offer but he wanted to stay close to home..I would be a Billionaire..not saying the kid wont have a shot at punter here but CMon SON...Texas am....110k 12th man..you cant turn down a FULL RIDE. Nice to pump your guy up but no one believes that he turned down a full ride to come to OU for free.

I took some time and researched this guy...He is currently ranked as the 6th best punter in the nation out of the 2011 class. He has recieved multiple interests from other D1 schools, including Texas A&M. The full ride was not guarenteed. Tough decision for a teenager to move halfway across the country i guess...i dont blame him, D1 is D1, especially for a punter. The NFL is definitely not out of the question, even at OHIO, i think we all know that. He is 6'4, 205. played WR and Safety, also plays basketball. Just type his name in on google or heres a few links to do your own research.

A coach from A&M who used to work with one of the OU coaches called to ask about Grant and was told that the Cats were very interested in him. I heard the day after Grant committed to OU, A%M called and wanted to talk about a possible scholorship offer but Grant said he was happy with his choice. Whether or not they actually offered a full ride I don't know so thats why I called it a rumor.

He will have to pay his first year and if he develops the way they think he can he will go on scholorship after that. His family coming up with money to follow their son if playing for A&M would cost much more than paying his way the first year at OU. Not to mention travel cost differences between a Big 12 schedule and a MAC schedule for the next 5 years.

I have known his dad since the early 80s and they are very excited to be Bobcats. I have said for years OU doesn't market themselves near enough in Washington County and I would guess attendance from that area alone will increase by about 50 to 75 fans per game now. Example is Jay Edwards!

Welcome aboard Venham family.

Anyone interested ought to look up the Kohl's site. Pretty interesting stuff there.  FWIW, Matt Weller is listed on the Junior staff on Kohl's site.  A lot of other current college players are there as well.    What an interesting business to be in.  Also, you must have been at one of their camps to be rated by them, but it seems like every kicker, punter, snapper who wants to play in D-1 has been there. (based on verbals so far)

I'm glad to see that top-rated recruits are finally seeing the light and seeing the superiority of Ohio over A&M. Of course, it's the other A&M, but we gotta start somewhere....

ESPN has him as a 79, the highest rated verbal in the MAC (that they have listed).  2nd highest is Ben Russell at 78.  3rd is a tie with Antwan Crutcher at 78, and finally players from other MAC schools.

Recruiting numbers are worth about the 10 seconds I spent there on them, but that's nice to see.

Awesome. The tradition of great kickers and punters coming through OHIO continues -- two critical areas to help you win those close games all too common in the MAC.
