Ohio gets a verbal from Sandy Creek (Tyrone, GA) High School quarterback Ronnie Bell. Sandy Creek won the Georgia AAA state title this season after winning the AAAA title in 2009. Bell had a 29-1 as a starting QB. As a junior, completed 177 of 228 passes for 2,003 yards with 17 TDs and 6 INTs.

I didn't know he was on our radar. From highlights he seems to throw the ball very well. Good poise in and out of the pocket. Has some nice receivers on his HS team.

Nice seeing such accuracy and very nice touch when he was on the run.

Tell him to bring along the play book--lots of Oregon/Auburn style short passes to the wideouts who become running backs out in the flats would be refreshing here.

Hope he hits a growth spurt for an additional inch or three.

Wow, 29-1 what is that Doc, winner winner chicken dinner?

That's the toughest thing about evaluating vids.....how much was the QB and how much was the WR?

One of the other QB's we were looking at had 2 D1 receivers.....it seemed that they simply got open and Williams lobbed it out to them.

Bell has some zip on his arm.

Vick was hard to figure since his best receiver seemed to be his tight end.

I didn't catch this at first, but after my brother pointed it out it was a great comparison.  Bell looks like he has a lot of Boo Jackson in him.  Obviously it's hard to tell just from a highlight tape, but it looks like he has good accuracy and does a really good job of putting the ball where only the receiver can get it.  The 29-1 record over the last two years is awfully impressive.  It tells me he has quite a bit of experience and success against good competition and in big games (10 playoff games in two years and two state title games).  I'm pretty excited to learn more about this kid since he was a guy that most of us had no idea was even on our radar.

He's definitely been on Ohio's radar. They offered him before the season.

OUDidn't know...I agree.  I thought he looked a bit like Boo.  One difference and PROBABLY a reason he didn't get more offers...at just under 6 foot and about 175 or 180, he is on the small for a D1 QB.  I'm sure he's heard that before.

I just meant on the board.  I don't really recall anyone talking about Bell.

It seems one of his wide receivers was more highly recruited than he was and is going to Cincinnati:

Looks like we've been after him from the start... excellent job by the coaches in getting this kid...

Here's a good article from before his Senior Season...

I'm no quarterback expert so correct me if I'm wrong, but does he have sort of a hitch in his throwing motion almost like he's winding up sometimes?  Also seems to hold the ball pretty high like a Jeff Tedford type quarterback.  Don't get me wrong he gets the ball where it needs to go and looks accurate, but wondering if maybe we can quicken up the delivery even more.  Not the 6'4" prospect we all dream of, but definitely looks like someone who can develop in our system.

This guy looks like a player and any areas where the ball was getting there a little late can be worked on I think because other times he delivered quick sharp passes right after he was snapped the ball and he does put power behind the ball. Looks like he has got speed to run it in in the red zone a lot of times like we did with Boo this year and has a lot of poise in the pocket like others have mentioned. This looks like a really good get for us and I wish him well during his time at OHIO.

Some nice throws, however a lot into coverage which would have been picked off here.  Quentin Williams looks better.I hope we get him.

Ronnie is just a kid with lots to learn but he looks good. I do think he needs to get more zip into his passes as some of his passes seemed to be floaters when they shouldn't have been. But on the other side of this coin, he has a nice touch when throwing to wide open receivers.

Interesting Quote about Ronnie and Ohio:

“They’re a program that’s going to throw the ball 40 or 50 times a game and Ronnie has the type of arm and poise that they need,” Walker said.

Logjam at QB with a verbal already for this years class.....best wishes to the guy but an overabundance of QB's is not a bad thing for us.

With Bell's transfer the logjam opens up. This year it was Bates (Senior), Tettleton (RS-SO), Snyder (RS-FR), Bell (FR), Vick (FR). Next year its going to be Tettleton (RS-JR), Snyder (RS-SO), Vick (RS-FR), Windham (FR). Vick automatically moves up to at least 3rd string for next season and can contend for 2nd behind Tettleton. This opens up room on the roster to bring in Cole French in next years class in case somebody gets injured. I hate to see a player of Bell's caliber go but the playing time just isn't there for the next couple of seasons.
