Seems like we could use a bit of help at d-tackle and in the defensive backfield?  Any cash available?

Have any D1 transfers come in that might fill those positions or add depth to other slots?

Looks like there's about 15 scholarship players who graduated and we know of at least a couple more that have left the program. With 13 comittments, that means there should be at least four scholarships left. I agree, it would be nice to get at least one DT and DB among those, if not more.

I would expect that they will hold back 1-2 of the available scholarships to award do walkons as they have typically done this in the past.

Walkons dont normally pan out, the only ones who ever did were Dak Notestine, and starting linebacker Chad Clemons who grew into being a anchor on the defense. One out of 100 is a long shot

Other walkons or former walkons on the 2-deep include Paul Hershey, Jeremey LaVoie, Nic Barber, Corey Hastings, Keith Moore, and Ryan Clark.

Looks like it could be about 19 total so I look for 2-3 "surprises".  Looks like a quality class is coming together.  That really isn't a surprise given how good this staff is getting at this.

On the recruiting class grid (http://bobcatattack.com/football/recruiting.asp), I show 65 scholarships currently being used. So the max number would be around 20. It could be less depending upon walk-ons getting scholarships or more if the coaches are aware of more attrition.

Patrick Kerney and Patrick Jeffers who walked on at Virginia over a decade ago under George Welsh did "ok" in college and made it to the NFL.

A more complete lists of walkons that have contributed in the last 5-8 years:
David Shelby RT
Neil Jereb S
Ryan Senser LS
Nate Clemens FB
Joel Scipio FB
Adam Olsheski TE
Kyle Robbins LS/LB
Chad Clemens LB
AJ Oxley DT
Matt Schulte P
Matt Lasher K/P
Dak Notestine DE
Jahan Olyaie WR/TE
Eric Benjamin LB
Kevin Culver S
Barrett Way K
Paul Hershey P
Corey Hastings DT
Nate Caldwell TE
Brian Albrecht WR/DE
Ryan Clark DB
Ian Elmore S
Issa Braithwaite S
Jeremey LaVoie LS
Nic Barber DE
Keith Moore LB

Many of the names above ended  up with scholarships, at least part of their career. I wouldn't want to claim that this list was complete, either. I probably missed some. Also, besides these, there have been many others that contributed by trying hard in practice, and pushing the starters.

Thanks, Mike. It's a great group of people here, that makes it easy for me to fit in. I haven't had as much time this year as some past years, and i really regret that I wasn't able to get there for a game this year. Hopefully next year I will.

There should have been room for about 20 or so in this class. We are getting close. Is there additional attrition that we don't yet know that has opened up additional spots?

Would really like to see another big RB, DT, and possibly another DB (depending on whether we plan on converting one of the WR recruits).  Also don't we kind of need to have 4 quarterbacks on the roster just to be safe?

What I'm noticing the most about this class is how much OHIO is hitting the talent states of Florida, Texas and Georgia this year. Seven recruits from those 3 states and if you add in the 4 players from Ohio the 4th biggest recruiting state out east that is 11 recruits from the top talent states. No offers at all in the SEC states of TN, SC, AL, LA. The staff also hit the WR, LB and DE positions pretty hard in this off season to make sure immediate needs are covered.

2012 offers received by region (157 Total)
OH (66)
FL-GA (38)
MD-DC-VA (16)
IA-NE-KS-OK-TX (15)
PA-NJ-NY (8)
MI-IN-IL-WI-MN (7)
CA (4)
Other (4)

2011 offers received by region (152 Total)
OH (57)
MD-DC-VA (24)
FL-GA (19)
iA-NE-KS-OK-TX (14)
PA-NJ-NY (6)
MI-IN-IL-WI-MN (6)
CA (6)
Other (19)

BobcatAttack, the most accurate site for Ohio recruiting, is now showing 18 recruits so far. There can't be room for many more left. Roger Lewis? Sebastian Smith? Diamante Wiggins? Any of those would be awesome additions, but I don't see how there would be room for all three unless some of the recruits are for greyshirts, or some don't qualify.
