On Defense from the state of Nebraska you have Jake Schany who is an absolute stud.  Offers from Ohio, Colorado, ect....  I really hope he goes Ohio.  You also have Ryan Flynn another very good one from Creighton Prep.  He is very interested in Ivy League due to academics but is gaining a lot of interest during the camp season.  Flynn will be one to watch at MLB and he is 6'3"  220lbs.

If there are any break out seasons I will get the names on the board for you but these are the guys for now.  At least the gusy that are not committed.  It is a small class for Nebraska this year so teams around here are trying to clean up on some nice Nebraska talent, I hope Ohio does the same.  I believe we have Bender committed to Kansas State, Drew Ott to Iowa, and Cotton to Nebraska, but don't be shocked if Shoff goes to Iowa as well and one of these other guys pull the trigger for Kansas State as there is major mutual interest in a couple of prospects from Nebraska and KSU.

Info from a high school all star game on Branz:

I#79 Ty Branz
York 6’3” 220
As a junior, Ty was named All-Area, All-District and All-State Honorable Mention in football and has a senior he was named Co-Captain for the All-Area team, he was named to All-District and an All-State Honorable Mention. He also received the Outstanding Lineman Award and All-District Defensive Line. Ty’s most memorable experience was when he was 10 and won a local football contest. He got to attend a football camp hosted by Tom Rathman and Eric Crouch. He really enjoyed meeting his two football heroes. In football, Ty likes making hits and he enjoys the team camaraderie. Ty is a three time state wrestling qualifier and placed fourth as a senior. Ty has the career pin record and the season pin record for the York Dukes. He is a two-year Iron Man recipient and was named Wrestling Captain his senior year. He has been asked to wrestle in the All-State Wrestling Dual this summer.
Letters: Track 4, Wrestling 4, Football 3.
Future Plans: Ty will attend Iowa Western Central College were he will play football. He is looking to Academic Transfer to the University of Nebraska – Lincoln where he wants to walk-on for the Huskers. His field of interest is engineering.

Same thing on this side of the ball...where are the D-line guys.  And, we all agree we need some faster safety play!

Similar to the O-line, Ohio made a major investment here bringing in 6 DL in last year's class. Tony Davis and Antwan Crutcher already saw the field this year. I share your concern on the safety spot.

Both played, but did either one play too much to save their redshirt status?

A true freshman loses his redshirt status with his first play. If that player is injured, he could regain the redshirt through the regular medical-hardship process.

I'm pretty sure as long as you're in for one play you lose your redshirt. Unless you can prove injury. Otherwise, true freshman all over America would be playing 4 games as a true freshman. As I recall, Josh Abrams lost a year for getting in for a couple of plays at Kentucky under the Brian Knorr regime.

I don't think Davis or Crutcher can claim injury. True freshman Ian Wells played early in the season on special teams before getting hurt. I think he will be able to claim 2011 as his redshirt year.
