He waited on his commit and for some reason or another it was pulled super late...I think he def improves the class and after a year or two in the program could be a great threat at 6'6

Well, I'd say, that's normal. All schools send out more offers than they have positions. In the MAC it seems to usually be about three or four offers outstanding for each open position. It's typically first come, first served. Had he accepted promptly, the scholly would have been his, and someone else would be in his shoes.

If someone gets an early offer, as Dayne did, at first there is no harm waiting. Ohio's classes the last few years haven't started really filling until November or early December. Once upon a time kids could wait until January on an Ohio offer and be OK because the class didn't fill until the final few days, but Ohio is now getting a much higher acceptance rate on it's early offers. Waiting beyond November is starting to be riskier. Once the class starts getting full, some offers are going to have to be pulled - that's the way the system works. Waiting until "super late" in what is essentially a game of musical chairs is not a good idea. I expect to see Ohio's classes fill even faster in the future, by the way, and the day may come when waiting beyond October is a bad idea.

What typically happens when they wait too long is that they end up being invited to be a preferred walkon, which is as close as they can come to honoring it - they get him into the system, and if a scholarship comes open in the future, he is in line. Sometimes kids will take the preferred walkon offer, as Dayne did, and other times they go elsewhere, as Richard Sandilands did, a few years back, when Taylor Price accepted before he did.
