Anybody know his status? He was not listed as signed.  The importance of a punter of his caliber can't be understated.

Coached said he has 2-3 punters that will be battling it out..he named a really good one and talked about the power of his leg..he didnt mention Grant. Maybe Grant needs to work and show what he can do in the spring..

Venham was a Greyshirt last year and would not be considered part of this class.  Sounds like he'll be competing with Nico Price for the gig.  Nico Price was a LB recruit long ago who I thought never made it to campus.  Apparently he did eventually and has a good leg.  It would be fun to watch him punt it and then lay a hit on someone instead of the typical punter/kicker tackling technique.

Nico Price? Really? I think he goes 5-10, 240 or so. He did play at Cal (Pa) awhile back and I checked their roster and he did not play there last year. Interestingly, Brian Sweeney, Jahan Olayahie, and Peter Lalich did. Lalich, BTW, threw for 3,700 yards and 31 TDs.

I know that Vick also averaged over 40 yards a kick in high school, so he might be the third competitor, though they may have him primarily working on QB.

That's what I thought I heard at least, I thought it was odd too and don't recall any mention of his punting ability during his original recruitment.

Coach did mention Price quite a bit seems he was injuried last year but punted before the bowl game and coaches were beyond impressed. Sounds like Punter is a spot to watch this spring also!

Grant will be competing for the spot. Talked to him and he said the decision will be made in spring. Hes been workin hard in the weight room and hes up to about 215 lbs. He said hes beenpunting a lot and has become much more consistant than during the fall last year. My moneys on him to be the starter. He said the only competition he will have is Nico, and said he has a strong leg but doesnt have the best punting technique. If you've ever seen Venham punt, then i dont think youll doubt him. He is alot like Hershey was, tall athletic good hands and a very smooth leg swing. We will see happens though, spring ball is right around the corner! Good luck to Grant and go bobcats!

I don't think Vick is on the team anymore.

Really? I thought that when Snyder and Bell left, Vick decided to stay behind, and I just checked, and he's still on the posted roster. My understanding is that Vick is an outstanding student, and not just at Ohio to play football. If he has changed his mind, and is now gone, I'm sorry to hear that.

The eDirectory shows a Nico Price enrolled, and a Grant Venham enrolled. Neither, however, are listed on the Spring roster. Vick, meanwhile, continues to be on the roster. Is any of this significant? I have no idea.

In the football thread, someone noted Vick being fairly impressive in practice, so it sounds like he certainly decided to stay. Perhaps someone who has a chance to watch can tell us who is punting.

L.C.,    according to this article on Yahoo (which I believe Arkley writes for them)..The punting competition is between Nieco Teipel and Venham.

rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news

Teipel was a LB for Louisville.  He is listed as a RS Sophomore on our roster.

That makes more sense. Per this Teipel video he was a running back, linebacker, and punter. It's good to hear that Venham is actually on the team, since he's not listed on the roster. Both Venham and Teipel are athletic, so I'd expect more fake punts this year, which is a good thing.

Just to add another name to the discussion: Brandon Atwell. He's listed at LB, but his senior year in HS at Wytheville, Va., he averaged 39.4 yards per punt and converted 29 of 32 point after attempts. Adding a bit of intrigue: He played wide receiver, running back, kicker, punter, defensive back and kick returner in high school. He was fiirst-team Virginia High School Coaches Association at running back and second-team VHSCA at punter as a senior.
