from an article on ESPN Insider,

Heath Harding has offers from Ohio, Fiami and 4 other MAC schools and attended the game on saturday so he could see both teams. While watching the game he got this bit of advice-

"One guy I was talking to said he has kids who go to Miami and he graduated from OU himself," Harding said. "He said you couldn't go wrong with either program. Academically, Miami is a little more prestigious than OU."

c'mon man, I know you're kids go there but don't you still bleed green? And this is a football recruit, we ain't come here to play school.

What he failed to mention is that this self admiration only works when interviewing with Miami Alums...Hope he has his sights set on the fry machine...

With three alma maters, I  find my left eyebrow arching when I hear an alum from one university claiming superiority over another university.

One of my long-held beliefs: Seldom is an entire university superior to another entire university.

Most have their strengths - and their weaknesses.  And often those strengths and weaknesses occur within the same school or department  - as in any other kind of organization.

Many Ohio alums like to poke fun at Kent - as in Kant read, Kant write.  Yet few universities can match Kent's school of interior, fashion and graphic design.  And how many universities can match Akron's expertise in polymer science?

Even in Ohio's rightfully esteemed Scripps School, first as a student and later as a guest professor, I came across some dud faculty.  Likewise at Stanford's GSB; it boasts some indisputably stellar profs - but included some who belonged anywhere but in a classroom.

I feel a significant measure of pride in my alma maters but recognize their weaknesses as well as their strengths.

Perhaps, but I'm pretty sure the Can't read, Can't write still fits...none of these programs actually require one to do either, do they?

Yes, I believe that both require the ability to read and write - and, importantly, to think.

Arrogance is easy to come by - and not terribly appealling.
