Here's a list of 4-star recruits to the MAC in recent years by Scout.com:

2006 - Alonso Rojas, P - BG
2006 - Chido Nwokocha, WR, Ohio
2007 - Julian Schneider, WR, WMU
2008 - Deryn Bowser, WR, Akron
2008 - Boo Jackson, QB, Ohio
2010 - Erick Howard, RB Akron
2011 - Nick Rossi, MLB, Akron
2012 - Montrell Dobbs, RB, Temple
2012 - Corey Jones, WR, Toledo
2013 - Brogan Roback, QB, EMU

I was curious, how did they turn out?
Rojas averaged 35.6 yards on his punts for BG before moving to Kansas.
Nwokocha had 45 receptions for 562 yards and 1 TD over 2 years.
Schneider had 72 receptions for 832 yards and 6 TDs over 2 years.
Bowser had 85 receptions for 1092 yards and 9 Tds over 2 years, currently plays for Iowa Barnstormers.
Boo Jackson passed for over 4400 yards with 38 TDs. Was with Canton Cougars last I heard.
Howard had off-the-field issues.
Rossi was in on 10 tackles this year as a Sophomore after being in on 8 last year as a Freshman. He also had 8 carries last year for 15 yards as a Fullback and 3 receptions for 27 yards.
Dobbs and Jones apparently redshirted this year.

I'd Ohio not only has more than it's fair share of 4-star recruits, but the ones they have had contributed, too.

Chido was one of those mostly unheralded guys who contributed a lot.  Great possession receiver if I recall correctly.

2006 - none
2007 - none
2008 - Doug Wiggins, DB, WMU
2008 - Josh Pleasant, DB, Kent
2009 - Kent Walker, LB, Kent
2009 - Christopher Henderson, DT, Akron
2009 - Jermaine Robinson, DB, Toledo
2010 - James Green, WR, Toledo
2011 - Andre Sturdivant, DE, Toledo
2012 - none

Wiggins didn't live up to the hype.
Pleasant played well for Kent, with 6 picks, and had some all-mac honors.
Walker, played in 8 games in 2009, but then I don't know.
Henderson didn't ever show, I think.
Robinson had a good career with Toledo, though he's probably not highly regarded enough to be drafted.
Green, in 3 years, so far has 26 receptions for 292 yards and 2 TDs.
Sturdivant had off the field issues.

Basicially Pleasant and Robinson were solid DBs, and the rest weren't major contributors, or were non-contributors.

Thanks for the research/updates L.C.  As we all know, it's fun to talk about stars and possiblities.  That keeps the fire going.

But all that falls our, of course, when guys take the field.

He contributed, but was he really that talented? In the MAC, a league with many 2 star guys, a few 3-star guys, a 4-Star should be a game breaker, and not sure he was that.

That doesn't sound right. They had 12 in the 2010 class alone. I would have thought it would have been more like 30 4-star recruits and maybe a 5-star or two. Or, are you saying that 14 of their starters were 4-star recruits?

I just took a quick look, using rivals data only, and PSU recruited 30 4-star recruits between 2008-2012, and no 5-star recruits. Of those 30, 16 were still with the team. I presume the others included some no-shows, some eligibility issues, and some injuries, plus some that transferred. Of the 16 left, seven were starters, and six more were second team. The 14 you saw may be correct using different data, such as scout.com or espn.

Yes, there is a point here. The 4-star recruits are going to include some talented players, but not every player with 4 stars is really going to be as good as his rating. Ones that end up in the MAC may not be as good as average. Despite the gaudy rating, many of the MAC 4-star recruits didn't get any BCS offers, so apparently the BCS schools had a different opinion than the rating service. Others may have academic or off-the-field issues. In the end raw ability is only one determinant of success. Coaching is a second one. The primary thing that matters the most is how hard the player works, his drive to succeed.

I don't know about 4 stars, but this drummer for a heavy metal band might be a good recruit for the defensive line. Playing the offenses of today, I've heard it's a good idea to be prepared, and forearmed.

Also, maturity (mostly physical).  My understanding is that Rodman entered college at 6'2" before emerging as a taller person.  Likewise, the Admiral at Navy.  Some guys peak at 19, others start rising at that point.

Yep, we beat 'em.  where were they at the end of the regular season?  Where were we?  My only point in all this is OHIO needs MORE, better, bigger, faster and stronger players.

Yes, and that is the trend at Ohio.  However, Ohio's coaches don't use stars to define who will be the next bigger, stronger and faster for Ohio.
