247 Sports shows new Ohio commit - Tyree Graves, Largo Florida, 6-3, 220lbs. Also had an offer from Stoney Brook.
Rated:
2 stars, 5.3 by Rivals
2 stars, 114th best TE by Scout
unrated by ESPN (but listed as an OLB)
unrated by 247Sports

Is this what they are doing with Walsh's scholarship? Or, is someone else leaving, too?

Hopefully not a sub for Casey Sayles.

I would assume they are targeting him at DE (if Mangen and Morgan are coming it at TE). If so, they are making a huge investment in D-line in the 2013 class. Not that it isn't necessary given to the fall-off we saw this year without Scott. But it makes you wonder about the large 2011 class that hasn't really shown up on the field (save Crutcher). You also had 2 players from the 2012 signing class, DL Trae Clark and DE Wade Wells, who weren't part of the team last year.

2011 DL Class (7 scholarships):
Andrew Bennett
Antwan Crutcher
Tony Davis
Justin Haser
Eric Price
Brandon Purdum
Brad Spivey

I see him more as a tight end. Add Morgan, Mangen, and Graves at TE to Henry, Tanner from last year and you will have 5 Freshmen/Red-shirt Freshment TE's on the team next year. That seems like a lot to me. I do see a need for 2 DE's in this class, though. If Sayles and Porter are slated for DT, that leaves four guys that could be DE/DTs, Mangen, Morgan, Smart, and Graves. If two of those will be used as DE, and two as TE, that makes more sense.

Still, I see a lot more need at this point for a QB and a CB, though.

Regarding the class of 2011, here are their career stats:
Antwan Crutcher - played 12 games, 40 tackles, in 2011 played 6 games, 15 tackles
Brandon Purdum - played 9 games, 10 tackles
Tony Davis - played 4 games, 5 tackles, in 2011 played 4 games, 2 tackles
Justin Haser - 2 games played, no tackles
Eric Price - no games played
Andrew Bennett - no games played
Brad Spivey - gone

Keep in mind that they will just be redshirt sophomores next year, but yes, they have been mostly invisible so far. There have been several negative indicators that this class is not working out as hoped in addition to their lack of playing time. The fact that they recruited two Juco DEs last year, plus the former LSU walkon was not a good sign. Neither is the fact that they have two JUCO DT's in this class. Also the fact that there was talk of playing Laseak as a true freshman indicates he may be already ahead of this group.

He apparently was an early commit, it's just that we didn't hear about it until now. Here's an article about him. He hasn't attained eligibility, so he may end up at Hutchinson JC.

I think you guys are underestimating the class. True Freshmen that get game reps is not the norm. Some guys are only starting to play Jr and Sr seasons.

And this is good.  It indicates there is quality depth, that it takes talent and maturity to make the depth chart.  Again,  this is good. Thanks, blitz..

Crutch and Purdum are projected starters next year.  Crutch should be All-MAC and Purdum is a scrapper....just a little on the smallish side for the interior line.

Haser played in the Ohio/Pennsylvania all star game in high school and has the size so I expect him in the rotation. Davis can play inside or out on the DL. Bennett has had some  good practices.  The only one on the above list I'm concerned about is Price.  We need pass rushers and he looked like one in high school...not sure what has happened with him.

Just to be clear, the fact that many of them haven't played a lot doesn't concern me overly. As blitz points out, freshmen don't often play on the DL. What does make me wonder, though, is the JUCOs they have recruited since they recruited this group.

The tweet announcing Graves' signing has him as a DL.

That's one thing I like about the class.....versatility....it doesn't happen often but it really helps depth when guys are equally good on offense or defense.

I had him this summer on my wishlist as a DE.....took him off when news dropped off.....put him back on as mentioned as a TE.
