The Situation
1/24/2013 6:10 PM

I was perusing the recruiting websites to see how this class has been developing. One thing really stood out to me on 247sports. Allegedly this kid Cleon Aloese will be taking an official visit either this weekend or next (conflicting dates listed). The site listed him as a 6'1" 290 lb DT. The reason it stood out to me was that the hometown listed was Pago Pago, American Samoa (an unincorporated US territory).

American Samoa is about as close to Hawaii as it is to Australia!

Is this for real?

I'm sure it's legit. Lots of Samoans especially linemen play football.  As the English commander said of Scot William Wallace.....he looks like a scrapper:

NBR...From espn.com. Pago Pago and college football.

Hollywood couldn't make this up. One day after a report that the voice of Manti Te'o's fake girlfriend belonged to the man who masterminded the hoax, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, another voice has emerged, that of his female cousin.

Relatives of Tino Tuiasosopo, a woman in her mid-20s who lives in Pago, Pago, American Samoa, told the New York Post that Te'o has been speaking to her.

I wonder if this is the result of Ron Collins contacts from his time at Boise and Colorado.

Every legitimate football team needs at least one Samoan at all times.

My favorite thing about this 6'1", 290 lbs. DT commit is that it gives us a run plug, which allows our 6'4" 260 DT/DE commit to focus on becoming a major destructive force from the edge.

Man, I need to see some LOIs though. Getting nervous about this class.

Now, the controversy:  Do we keep him at d-line or at fullback?

I know this isn't a real question, but DL is much more valuable of a position than FB.  No contest here.

Yup.  I still say that truly disruptive defensive linemen are the rarest commodity in college ball.

Knorr left Ohio is pretty good shape at DT with Cohen and Yates, but since then most DT recruits have not worked out, and Ohio has ended up using converted defensive ends and walkons most of the time, and has rarely if ever had much depth there. See my discussion in the "Overall Impressions" thread. They should have depth, and talent, now.

I assume that it's not likely that any of the d-line guys who signed today who will be freshmen can be expected to make an impact.

What's the feeling on the JC guys--are they MAC ready?

Actually met him this weekend. He was with Watson and Antwan Crutcher. Watson said he left AS on Wednesday and got to Athens on Friday. haha.

He told me that night that he was going to commit to Ohio.
