Awesome commit. It's been quiet for too long, and this is a great way to break it.

Per 247sports it is a soft verbal, and he still has warm interest for Nebraska. I take that to mean that if a Nebraska offer comes his way, Ohio will lose him.

Yeah....he's a man among boys.....some of the blocks he made on his video probably embarrassed the heck out of the defender:

Yeah....Sayles is a good name since people he blocks and tackles sail thru the air for sure.....do project him as a 6'4"-280 pound plus D-lineman with 4.7 speed who can play inside or out.....liked his blocks though like the one where he blocks 2 guys at once.....people he blocks sail thru the air and do the horizontal bop.

Nate Clouse reports on Husker On Line's, Red Sea Schrolls, that Sayles "has a lot of potential and upside
since
he just turned 17."

I note that of their "Super Six" Nebraska HS players, one has verballed to Nebraska, one to Iowa, and one to Ohio. Of the remaining three, Deluca has an Ohio offer, and Schlager is on Ted's board. The remaining one, running back Michael Minter, Jr. is missing his Senior year for disciplinary reasons, and currently has no offers. He is the son of this guy, who was a very good player in two ways - he had the athletic tools, but also a great grasp of the defense. It isn't surprising to find that he is now a coach (he is an assistant to Turner Gill at Liberty).

Ohio has done very well with players out of Nebraska, and they continue to do so. They now have some very good players from Oklahoma on the team, too, and I hope that continues as well.

Yes, we have a pretty fair student-athlete or two on hand from the state of Oklahoma.

According to HuskerOnline.com, Sayles attended  the Nebraska/Penn St. game on Saturday. A couple of Nebraska coaches indicated to him that they were close to an offer. They're waiting for an answer from another TE prospect. Sayles' Omaha North team will play in the state championship game. He did say he was very comfortable with his Ohio commitment if that's where he ends up. Hang on to your hats on this one.

Sayles looks good in losing state championship.  Seems he is still shopping for bigger offer.

Interesting that we have him at DT/DE, but he wants a TE offer from Nebraska. Any idea if TE is his preferred position, or is it because he is more likely to see playing time at Nebraska as a TE?

This would be a huge loss for Ohio if he does de commit. This kid has potential to be big time. 4.7 speed at his size. Even if he bulks up he'll still be the quickest guy on the line by far!

The "chatter" from Nebraska fans is that a Husker offer for Sayles is likely.  Apparently our old friend Ross Els just paid him a visit.

Must be why we signed the 2 JUCO's? Sucks.

This is OHIO/MAC/Pecking Order recruiting...we lose one to the BigBoyz (in this case Nebraska) and win one from the LittleGuy (YSU).  And, this is why the MAC is such a competitve conference.  We really are all basically recruiting/getting the same (kind of) players.

Yeah.....we have a better chance of keeping DT Porter.....he may be holding out for an SEC offer but he has verbaled to us.

I don't see them as an either/or situation. The Juco's fill a different timeframe. Normally you expect a freshmen DT to come in and redshirt his first year, and then play sparingly his second year, and then play a major role the next three years. By contrast you expect a Juco to come in and play right away, and play the following year and then be gone. Thus, I would expect to see the a guy like McLeod playing in 2013 and 2014, whereas I'd expect to see Sayles playing in 2015-2016-2017.

Porter and Sayles would be the long term future. Taking McLeod and Tautuiaki is an indication that they they need some extra players to help the next couple years. Right now the guys at DT/NG for 2013-2014 appear to be Crutcher, Haser, Purdum, and Davis. Four DTs is not enough, especially after seeing the Bobcats lose 2 on one play. Even with the Jucos, they still need to have some Freshmen DT's for further down the road.

I'm starting to feel better about us getting this guy. Nebraska just got its third DE commit yesterday. Not sure they need another. Keeping my fingers crossed.
