Ohio has offered a scholarship to Clinton-Massie High School DE/TE Trent Smart. It's the first offer for the 6-4, 240-pounder.

Any one have any thoughts on whether 'first to offer' is meaningful?  Gives us a leg up on a prospect?  Indicates our staff is is superior at finding talent?

Nothing scientific here Monroe but since Brian Haines has taken over as recruiting coordinator I think has been more active early. Typically you'll find that Ohio and Toledo are the first MAC schools in on recruits (especially in Ohio). I think it's a positive as sometimes being the first one in becomes a differentiator in the decision process. Almost invariably you'll see Ohio or Toledo open the floodgates for more offers.

Uh oh. Monroe hates it when they recruit these disruptive defensive line guys.

Just quickly glancing at the video it looks like he operated mostly in a stand up DE/OLB hybrid type role and rarely put his hand on the ground at in a three point stance.  Looks athletic in his rush and disciplined setting the edge in the run game.  But it is division IV so it's harder to judge based on the level of competition.  Still always nice to snag a Cincy guy away from Miami.

Massie beat Bishop Hartley 45-21 last weekend and will face St. Clairsville in the State Championship game.  Wonder if he has any teammates who are good enough for D-1.  Their scores look like X-box stuff at times.
