He's been rowing all season. He's a salesman, no doubt about it, but can he coach them to wins?

As I have said many times, if FS&Co could START with a two or three recruit groups like this can you imagine where we would be now?  That's sorta what i thought would happen win a guy who was in the National Cham game ccame to Athens 9/10 years ago.

So, I guess we might all agree that FS can coach but maybe isn't that much of a salesman?

We shall see if rating service stars are "all that." Casper71, please follow the WM class and let us know how they contribute vs Ohio's coaches choices.

Bcat2, you seriously don't get me...I simply said that if this staff had a salesman who recruited like that two or three years in a row OHIO would be in a better place.  You continue to think 3-star guys are irrelevant or are not really 3-star guys and our recruits who are NR or 2-stars are the best.  I don't doubt some are under the radar guys and good.  But, I repeat...I would like to START with overall higher rated players and i thought this staff could get them.  I simply said that compared to WMU there is a lack of a "salesman".  Do you disagree with that?  If so, how does he have a top 50 recruiting class this year and we are down near 100?

Just look at the 2-4 -star guys WMU will probably sign.  Offers from all over the Big10 so I guess none of those schools know how to recruit but our "under the radar" guys are better than 4 star guys.  I don't get you?!?  We're lucky if we've had 2-4-star guys the last 10 years and WMU gets that many in one class?  Maybe he can't coach but he sure can recruit.

As I have stated elsewhere, just look at how many 3-star guys even the 50-60-70 ranked classes have...  DOUBLE DIGITS!  That is what I would like to see from this staff.  And that would move us ahead a lot faster than what we are doing now.

Casper, I think you and I are on the same page!

I currently like the direction we're taking in recruiting...but for the better part of the Solich era we were a recruiting disaster. Not exactly something you'd expect from a guy that showed up less than five years removed from coaching a national championship game, B12 coach of the year, etc...

Of course I wouldn't trade Frank for that ritalin-fueld "Bro-ach" they have up in kalamazoo.

Great recruiters are not always successful coaches. An example that comes to mind is Ron Zook. I do agree that Solich's greater strengths are coaching and motivating teamwork, and that recruiting is not so much a top skill, but I do think he's OK at it. In fairness, when Solich got to Ohio, the facilities were sub-standard, and that had to make recruiting harder for him, just as it did for his predecessors.

Over the last decade the facilities have caught up, and I think the IPF is the last major piece,.I think you can see in this class the difference that the IPF, and 5 straight bowl games is starting to make. I hope recruiting continues to improve, but I am very excited about this class.

You miss the point, L.C.  The point is that bcat2 will NEVER even come close to stating or believing that we could be less than perfect.

No matter what the evidence shows.

News Flash:  I'm less than perfect, Monroe is less than perfect, Bcat2 is less than perfect, and even stat-magician L.C. is less than perfect.  We are all human and make mistakes.  I don't think anyone, including, Bcat is saying that Frank is perfect or that we didn't make mistakes last year.  I think the difference is that some of us feel based on past experience that Frank will fix things going forward, just like he overhauled the offense a few years ago after the Troy meltdown.  You, however, seem to dwell on the doom and gloom that we all feel after the last year.  Others are trying to raise spirits by pointing out that the glass is half full.  This last two seasons would have been a high-point of any continued Knorr regime.  There would have been dancing in the streets at seven wins and bowl game.  Now, it's a down year.  That's progress.  In Frank I still trust.  If that makes me a shill, so be it.  I've shilled for much worse.

You miss the point, which I state quite directly.  Again:  bcat2's never going to hint that last season was anything other than perfect.  bcat2 is refuses to acknowledge the truth.  Note how he or she refuses to answer questions about no wins over .500 MAC teams or about running game stats in the games that we lost.

The point has nothing to do with what any of us think about last season or the future.

bcat2 is a clown.  I have a high regard for the truth, for a reasonable presentation of the truth.  Some days, I ain't gonna let him or her pull his truth-avoidance garbage..
