Unfortunately the archives are gone that dated to pre-mid-2010, so we can't go back to see what BA's had to say about the recruiting classes prior to 2011. What did we think of the ones 2011 and beyond?
First, a look back at the 2011 class:
Starter - Russell, Crutcher, McQueen, Wells, Purdum, Powell, J. Johnson, Bass, Lucas
Have been regular contributor - L. Smith, T. Davis, Macer, Vick, Venham
Not Played much, or left the program - Eric Price, Welter, Fisher, Hammonds, Bennett, Bell, Haser, Curtis
From
this thread:
Like many on this board, I think this is going to be a good class by MAC standards. As has been stated, according to Rivals we have 5 three star recruits and a number two ranking in the MAC.
I'm with you on this. I think the number of 3 stars in general have been increased, but we aren't necessarily moving to the next level recruit -wise even though this appears to be a pretty good class. ..
Clearly shaping up to be a good class for us, at least....
From
another thread:
........my #1 impact player in this class however is DT Antwan Crutcher of Cleveland Glenville......turn him loose next year Frank......release the beast.
And
another thread:
Its good to see Hammonds on the role call. He was an early verbal and not a lot of recruiting site have picked up on him. Its going to be a great class, I expect 8-10 will contribute as true freshman.
Those are some impressive highlight packages.
I'm especially impressed with our pair of linebackers, Ben Russell and Jovan Johnson, both look like they have a nose for the ball and will be big playmakers. ...
It's nice that Ohio has now gotten to a point that they aren't having to rely on a lot of unknown recruits. Some of those unknowns have turned out to be pretty good players, but others have never contributed much....This looks like an outstanding class. With classes like this, Ohio is going to be a force in the MAC for years to come, and will certainly get that first bowl game win one of these years.
I'd really like to know what "clicked" this year. New recruiting coordinator with a better approach? A new strategy in approaching players? More positive stuff to talk about (IPF)? Seems like this class is significantly stronger than any Frank has had here. Why is that?
...Hats off to Coach Brian Haines.....great first recruiting coordinator year.
Tomorrow I'll search out what we had to say about 2012, but I think the comments on 2011 were pretty much correct. It has been a pretty good class. Doc get's extra credit for nailing it on Crutcher, probably the most dominating player in the class.
