"Defensive coordinators who had to game plan against Washington were anything but comfortable last fall. The three-year starter rewrote Senior High’s record books, becoming the first player in program history to top 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. In 12 games he caught 67 passes for 1,190 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Tygers were unbeaten in the regular season and advanced to the second round of the Division II playoffs before falling to New Albany. Playing with a separated shoulder, Washington caught six passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns in the playoff loss."

5'11", 183lbs
Rivals page, Not rated, Ted shows offers from Kent, Buffalo, and Miami, Ohio.
I don't see a page at Scout, ESPN, or 247Sports.
Junior film at youtube.
Hudl page.

I wonder if he's being recruited for defense or offense? I'm guessing defense.

You guessed right.  From the article:

Quote:expand_more
“They want me to play defense right away, but they also want me to play where I’m most comfortable,” Washington said. “I just want to help out wherever I can.”

I know you're being a tad sarcastic, but just because they had an offer doesn't mean the offer still stands. I really don't think someone accepting an offer this late means you're beating out another school. But it could.

...Lucky guess. I was on my way to work, and after watching the film, had to leave, and didn't have time to read the article. I thought he looked good at DB, with good coverage skills, and capable on run support, so I was thinking that was where he would end up.

My guess is different. I think he isn't listed in the recruiting services at all because he wasn't thinking about playing in college until fairly recently, and I suspect his offers are all recent. Note at the bottom of the article that he hasn't taken the ACT yet. If he had been thinking in terms of college all along he'd have probably taken it at least once already. I don't know the ACT schedule, but at this late date he may only have 1 or 2 chances to take it left.

JC brings in players with high major offers. And you guys want to celebrate that we are now competitive with above-average MAC schools?

Regardless, this one seems a little odd. Perhaps this is one of those long-shot qualifiers that we're familiar with.

No, we've beaten redhawk pretty consistently lately.  cant's, Beef and FATMAN seem to pretty much have it on us on the field lately.  I seem to remember a couple of games this year....

In talking to someone from Mansfield, it kind of sounds like interest in him as a Division I recruit was kind of late developing. He doesn't know him well but thinks he's a pretty good guy and a decent student. As the article mentions, Washington's coach played in the MAC and believes he is a Division I caliber player.

Another article on  his commitment: http://www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com/article/20140125/HSSP...

I didn't pick up on this in the original article but there's still work that needs to be done on the ACT.

Yes, the first article, at the very end, mentions that he hasn't taken the ACT yet.

So looking like a grayshirt then. Makes sense seeing as we're tight on schollies and this was a late add.

As a graduate of Mansfield Senior I'm happy to see this.  One of my fellow classmates Chioke Bradley, who played for BGSU ('95-99), has completely turned the Tygers program around, and back into the playoffs where they used to consistently be.  I have some friends who still can watch them every week, and they have been talking about Washington for quite some time now.  TY!

Just an interesting FYI, Washington is now playing for the Mansfield Sr. basketball team, who is one win from the Div 1 Final Four.  If Chek can play CB like he can defend on the court we're in for something good.  The Tygers just held Toledo City League champs Bowsher to 50 points (they've scored 100 three times this season).

Maybe at the end of football season he should join the basketball team to come of the bench for some quick energy/defense?..
