Wow -- the class is taking shape early.  Last year Ohio didn't see any commits until July...this year we have three already in May.  (The 2013 info I'm quoting is from Rivals and might be incomplete...I'm sure some resident historians know for sure).

Last night, Frank said Ohio had 5 verbals. So we have some digging to do.

I'll guess an offensive lineman and a wide receiver.

Unless you give names, it doesn't count, so I give the points to Ted.

There year's recruiting class will be a small one - about 17, I expect. Thus it's already about 1/3 full, an amazing start. My ideal class this year will be heavy on speed to follow up last year's size. On offense I'd like at least 2 QBs, 2 WRs, and a RB and on defense 4 DB's and 2 OLBs. The other six or so recruits can be scattered anywhere.

I wonder if any of the 3 non-qualifier players from the Feb. 2012 class (Trae Clark, Mike Roberts,Chris Murray) have gone the JUCO route and will show up in the Feb. 2014 class.

I believe they did go Juco, but if they show again, it will be the Feb. 2015 class, at which point they will presumably have 3 to play 3, assuming that they redshirt this fall and work on grades, and then play in Fall 2014.

Wouldn't they have used a redshirt in the fall of 2012?  Then they would be playing this year and be at Ohio (assuming they still come) in the fall of 2014?

He's part of the 2013 class and a preferred walk-on.

5 commits by May, something is really different this year, last year had only Walsh by June. A very good start to the class. I would think these early commits ( by our standards) would help some others make their decisions as well, if they like what they see.

Especially if you are a WR and you see Joey Duckworth and 2 brute  O linemen already.

On Defense in the next few years we could have 2 DE's from Mentor.....Berger and Laseak.

For you recruting wizards, what is typical for the 'power schools' in terms of when they get their commitments?  How are we tracking against that this year?  Clearly by our standard we are rolling early...wondering what company that puts us in.

Well, I dredged up this table that I posted early last year. I need to update it for the results in the remainder of the year last year, which I will do when I get a chance, but here it is:
Re-posting the updated table:

By June    Jul      Aug     Sept      Oct       Nov       Dec       Jan       Feb
2005           0            0         0          0           0          0           0         20         6
2006           0            0         0          0           0          3           1           9         6
2007           0            0         0          1           1          1           4           5         9
2008           0            0         0          0           0          0           9           2         9
2009           0            0         0          2           0          3           2           3        11
2010           0            2         1          2           1          0           0           3         7
2011           2            2         3          0           0          0           0           4         5
2012           0            0         0          4           1          1           4           5         4
2013           1           10
2014           5 .           8        3

As far as where this puts Ohio, teams like Ohio State have more recruits, but Ohio is keeping up with the bottom tier of the Big Tenfinity, and they would be near the top of the MAC. I think the pace is very good, and the quality looks outstanding. Ohio went after some very, very good players this year, and the bulk of the players they have offered had 10 or more offers.

Seems Langenkamp also has the feet, mobility and quicks for center. Lots of options with this group.

Here's a link to ESPN's recruiting scorecard. It basically functions as a running total of each school's commitments.

espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/scorecard

Past experience tells us that this list is probably incomplete for most schools. But, it is interesting that WMU has nine (9) commitments listed already, a 4-star QB among them.
