The last couple years Ohio has had a good start on the recruiting class by the end of June, so I figure we should start seeing the earliest ones soon. Using 247Sports, the number of recruits by MAC school:

WMU - 5 (81,80,79,79,76)
CMU - 4 (77, 77, 75, 74)
Toledo - 2 (76,75)
EMU 2 - (70,70)
NIU - 1 (75)
None for Ohio, Miami, U.Mass, Kent, Buffalo, BG, Ball State, and Akron.

As comparison points:
For the 2014 class, Kuhar was the first commit on 4/15, followed by Duckworth on 5/4
For 2013, Walsh was first on June 14, followed by Murdock on 7/6

I would say so, though, he is one of only three QBs on their spring roster.

Interesting. BC QB recruits by year and their Rivals rating:
2010 - Bordner 5.5 (now playing WR)
2011 - Suntrup 5.7 (injured, gone from program)
2012 - Bryce Jones 5.4 (now playing DB)
2013 - Walsh 5.6, Lowrie 5.4 (transferred to URI)
2014 - Wade 5.6 (enrolled early, is there)

Also on the team is Tyler Murphy, a Senior who transferred from Florida at the end of 2013 (note he was a 0-star walkon in 2010). Pundits seem to think Murphy has the starting job for 2014, and that  Wade will beat out Walsh to replace Murhpy in the longer term. They hope Wade can be redshirted in the meantime, though. The bright side for Walsh is that he isn't far from the starting spot, so he may be in pretty good shape. The negative side is that comments seem to indicate that he hasn't been what they hoped for when they recruited him. From the article on Lowrie, linked above:

[quote=bcinterruption]James Walsh:Just finished his red shirt year. Fits in with Addazio's style of a mobile quarterback, might know the playbook better than Wade at this point, but Wade has more raw skills and will be a much more dynamic quarterback going forward.[/OUTER_QUOTE]

Personally I was disappointed when Walsh changed his commitment, but I had always wondered if he might have been slightly over-rated since he had 4 all-State or all-conference offensive linemen in front of him, meaning he probably had a tad more security in the pocket than he is ever likely to see again. In any case, with their losses at QB, I'd say BC is even worse off at QB than Ohio, and his playing chances are probably better there than at Ohio.
