Just bunpmed into Marques Grimes and family while checking in at the Ohio University Inn an hour ago. Looks like he made an official to Northern Iowa in the recent past and now it is up to us to convince him to come to OHIO. See http://www.thedzone.net/2014/05/marques-grimes-southfield...

It looks like all of his offers are Division II with a couple of FCS offers. Seems like he would be a project. His own page says he never played football at all until his sophomore year and had only one year of varsity experience. Maybe a preferred walk-on based on his potential to learn and get better?

I see the limited experience as a plus in this case because it means he hasn't reached his potential yet, and he's pretty good anyway, just from his natural ability and attitude. He's big (6'5" 300 lbs), and seems very quick and agile for his size. He plays hard, and plays to the whistle. I think he has a lot of upside. I note that he's also a good student.

I'm not sure how many positions are open yet, if any, but I like this guy. My guess is that he's be a grayshirt/preferred walkon at this late date, but who knows.

Watch the video. This young man is sooo well put together and has yet to train seriously. Someone is going to get a diamond in the rough. Two years out this young man is going to make some QB extremely successful.

As a preferred walkon this would be worth it even if he is a project. But with no other D1 offers I would be hesitant to use up one of our final scholarships in such a small recruiting class this year. I know some will say we have to trust what our coaches see, but are they really smarter than every other D1 school?

All I know that is in person, this kid looks like a great prospect! I love players with great bodies, athleticism, who have played just a couple of years and as a result were below the radar of the top recruiting coaches.

+1 However, I would regard the coaches who have the contacts to uncover Mr. Grimes as "top recruiting coaches."

On the recruiting front I believe they are asked to work harder than nearly every other school to cultivate contacts far and wide. This is football we are talking about. Usually I would rather work smarter not harder, yet, soo many times in football smart is not enough. You need to work smarter and harder, which is what I believe Ohio's staff does.

I'm really disappointed in the the first play of the video. He pancaked someone and clearly did not have the necessary speed to get to the safety to pancake him as well. Two pancakes per play should be the minimum. ;)

This is the guy I'd like to see a 40 time on. He appears to be pretty quick for his size. He looks to me like a Pruehs in a larger body, and I see him as the LT of the future.

Scout team work vs Ohio's DEs will get him ready.

I'm gonna throw out a crazy idea: Let's try to make him into a tight end.

Here's my thought: He's big, he's got decent wheels, and we've got more OL right now than we know what to do with. Even if he doesn't have great hands, we haven't had a road grader tight end in a while.
