Did anyone have the first 2015 Commitment as a long snapper?  Looks like he worked with a couple Long snapping specific camp/recruiting services

Some videos....

Extremely excited to say that I have verbally committed to play football at Ohio University!

I didn't see that on LC's list. Seems really strange to me.

Ooops, left LS off my needs list, didn't I? And, Miles Chapman is a Senior, too, so I guess there are eleven Seniors, not ten.

Well, now the class of 2015 is started. Let's get more good ones.

It may be that punting may be such a big part of the strategy next year

Actually, with regards to Chapman, I'm confused. The rosters last year all showed him as a Redshirt Sophomore.  As an example, here' the game notes for the Beef O'Brady's Bowl.  On the roster on page 13, he's a Redshirt Sophomore. Yet, a few months later, the Spring roster shows him as a Redshirt Senior. I know time goes faster when you get older, but I don't remember his Junior year at all.

Chapman redshirted and then wrestled for one season so that could have factored into the roster confusion, but this fall definitely will be his 5th in Athens.

Doesn't really say he has a scholarship.

True, and to be honest, it's also not clear whether Chapman has one. Ted doesn't have him on his list, but I am pretty sure I remember his name being mentioned among the 40+ walkons that have earned one.  I suspect Hale will be scholarship, especially given the early verbal, but I can't say for sure.

It's pretty standard to offer a scholarship LS every few years and if the only one on the roster is going to be a senior it makes sense to lock one up for 2015. Osu just offered one a few weeks ago too. Might not be a glamour position but you sure don't want to be without one.

I don't disagree that long snapper is an important position.  It is kind of unusual for Ohio to offer a scholarship for one, so they must be impressed with Hale. In the past they have  relied on walkons, and then given them a scholarship if they earned the job.

2005-2007 - Ryan Senser - walkon transfer from Arizona State. He signed originally with New Orleans after Ohio, and was also with the Seahawks for awhile He still plays professionally (for the Virginia Destroyers-USFL).
2008 - Kyle Robbins - walkon
2009-2011 - Jeremy LaVoie - walkon
2012-2014 - Miles Chapman - As I recall , he was a wrestler that Solich found in the weight room

It seems like a Long Snapper video should be in helmet and pads. Those things complicate the process along with a 300 lb defensive lineman close by.

According to HustleBelt.com, Hale will be at the Ohio/Akron game tomorrow.

Ohio has a very strong class this year in terms of defensive linemen, with McKnight, Stevens-McKenzie, Arp, and possibly Colbert depending on where they use him. It's interesting to note that while Hale was recruited as a long snapper, he was Second-Team all-District in Division I as a defensive lineman this year:

At 6'1", 205 he's a little small, but maybe at some point he could grow into a defensive end well. He's a coach's son, I believe.

Do most long snappers in college double as a position player or just snap? I have never paid attention or even thought about that before.
