Every year it seems that the recruits come earlier. Not long ago MAC recruiting classes were mostly filled in December-January, but some MAC schools are off to a roaring start, especially WMU with a consensus Top 25 recruiting class so far

WMU - 12 commits, National Rankings: Rivals #29, 247Sports #12, Scout #16

Miami- 6 commits, National Rankings: Rivals #55, 247Sports #35, Scout #45

Toledo - 5 commits, National Ranks: Rivals #71, 247Sports #54, Scout #59
( They reportedly really have 10 commits, and ranks will go up when other commits show)

Kent St - 1 commit, National Ranks #57, 247Sports #68, Scout #57

As they did last year, Ohio seems to be raising the bar on offers, and going for those "true 3-star" rated level players:
http://ohio.247sports.com/Season/2016-Football/Offers

There appear to be only a handful of players that Ohio has offered that are NOT 3-star rated or higher, and far more 4-stars than 2-stars. Most of the players that they have offers out to have a bunch of other offers. If Ohio can fill the class from this group, it will be a very, very good class when it's all done. They were able to fill the class last year with highly rated players, so hopefully that will happen again this year.

Here's the earliest recruits for previous classes. All from Rivals, could be missing some earlier commits. Corrections are welcome.

2015 - June
2014 - May
2013 - July
2012 - Sept
2011 - April
2010 - July
2009 - Sept
2008 - Dec
2007 - Sept

My guess for class of 2016 is...May.

In today's Post article, Coach Solich said the position coaches will be hitting the recruiting trail after Saturday's scrimmage. So perhaps Ohio does not typically place a great emphasis on getting verbal commitments before April?

I wonder if any recruits will be at the Spring game? If so, maybe we'll get an early verbal or two.

Obviously having double digits of commits already, as WMU has, is not typical, which is why they are in the Top 25 at this point. When the dust settles, their ranking will drop quite a ways from there. It will still be pretty high, though, as most of their commits have P5 offers, or have numerous G5 offers. Only one, Mkie Caliendo, and offensive guard from Brookfield, Wisconsin, had an offer from Ohio, so there doesn't seem to be a lot of overlap in who the two schools are after. Hopefully Ohio will land the people they are after, too.

I know we often talk about Coaching turnover and stability and how that affects recruit commits. I know Coach still has some years left on his contract, but could his age begin to hamper recruits at some point? By no means is this a "fire Frank" suggestion, but I'm sure Frank & Co. have to be thinking about all of that at some point.

IN my opinion Frank is still a strong positive for our program. He represents stability, quest for excellence plus emphasis on education.
I hear over and over again that players are respected and cared for at OHIO.

Now I just wished we could find a great 4 year QB!

“@NEPrepZone: Millard North's @BackUp_Drelly has signed with Ohio. http://bit.ly/1EdNpiV ” congrats brother 🍴💰

Adrrell Taylor might be the guy.

Edit: Mr. Taylor is already "signed." Brought up his ACT and Ohio still had room for him. Not first man in 2016 class. My Bad.

If he is already signed wouldn't he be part of the 2015 class?

Tupa is a well known football name in Ohio. Tyler is son of Tom (Ohio State, NFL), brother of Tommy (Miami Ohio) and Tim (Navy).

The class is started now.

Here's a working link to that article:

Those long links often don't agree with BA. While we're at it, I see another Tupa article of interest:

His brother Tim transferred from Navy to BG in January, and will sit out next fall.
