I thought his high school highlights were impressive. Interesting he'd come here with as many backs as we have although I am very optimistic the staff finds a way to get these guys touches. They all have different styles. Papi has already shown ability to be more of a playmaker type.

Love it.

Sometimes transfers are because of off-the-field problems. That wasn't the case here. It was just a case where he was buried on the depth chart, and was never going to play. It's rumored that he wasn't even invited to the 105 player Fall Camp this year, and wasn't in their top 5 at RB.

Ohio has done well in the past with guys who had a younger brother who ended up at Ohio State. Maybe he'll work out well at Ohio, and if not at RB, perhaps somewhere else like WR or LB.

Doesn't seem like a real need right now, I'm wondering if he'll get a scholarship. Are the posters on the Iowa site right that he didn't even start at running back in his senior year?
Well it looks like I was right for once. He's currently a walk on according to the Athens messenger article and will try out for a schollie next year.

Rivals 3 Stars. Not sure if he was three stars when offered or later, but, Cincinnati appears to be an area the staff would like to recruit heavily and St. Xavier is another good school.

I'd be very surprised if he was walking on. Not every day someone with offers from Iowa, Akron, Boston College, BG, Indiana, Miami, Ohio, Toledo and WMU out of high school transfers from the Big 10 to the MAC and loses their scholarship along the way.

If he does play football here is he eligible this fall, or does he have to sit out a year? Sounds like he didn't play at all at Iowa so maybe he's eligible now. Anyone know?

Even though he redshirted last year I think he will still have to sit out a year. I believe he is playing. His Twitter profile says Ohio Football. https://twitter.com/mynamecarl

The article did say that he played a lot of DB his Senior year. It's possible Ohio might use him there, I suppose.

How long you sit before you transfer doesn't matter, you always have to sit out a year AFTER the transfer, so he'll have to sit out 2015. If he had waited until after classes began, then I don't think 2015 would count as "after the transfer", and then he would have also had to sit out 2016, or at least, that's my understanding.

You are correct L.C. It depends on when the athlete enrolls, regardless of how many actual "seasons" have passed in football terms.

I think that was what happened to Marcus DuPree when he transferred from Oklahoma to Southern Mississippi. He basically was going to miss two seasons, so he bolted for the USFL instead.
