Sarasota Herald-Tribune article

Provitt a player for all seasons  - "It seems like college would be a good fit for Provitt, because academically, he’s no slouch either. He holds a 3.6 GPA, 4.2 weighted, and is taking honors physics, advanced placement economics and a dual enrollment written communications course this semester."

What? Another speed guy from Florida? And unrated and unknown to all the services, with no other offers?

LOL - There has to be a story here somewhere. He clearly has talent, both offensively and defensively, so how did he come to be so far under the radar that no one noticed him? It wasn't like he was the star of a bad team, or in some hidden conference... his team started the year 10-0 before ending up 11-2, and one of the losses was to the eventual runner up in the state championship.

Also, how does Ohio have another scholarship available...?

I was going to guess preferred walk-on, but the article states we're holding a scholarship for him...grey shirt or someone else will be a non-qualifier?

I was going to guess walk on too, but apparently Davon Henry will be leaving the team (too many injuries). I don't get why he's so under the radar, looks like a good player.

Such a shame on Davon Henry. He gave it his best shot, and worked through two shoulder surgeries, and two rehabs, and was able to play a little bit last year. If you look at his twitter, at the top is a picture of him, Jake Schany, and John Tanner, three guys from the class of 2012. All three were talented, but they are now all gone from the team due to injury:

It's just another reminder of what a bad year 2012 was, and how those injuries are still affecting things.

As for Provitt, the last guy Ohio took from Florida that was under the radar, unrated, and had no other offers was Lavon Brazill.

Also a reminder to all of us in "internet boardland" just how much these kids put on the line for themselves, the school and the program. Something we should all remember before criticizing the heart, effort or ability of one of our student-athletes.

Perhaps the Bobcats will be on top of the MAC in the return game. One kickoff return per game and 10 punt returns! Nice to see an addition like this that has many talents; if he only excels as a return man he's a great addition.

Venice is the high school that Dri Archer went to, by the way. Trey Burton of the Eagles was also there at the same time.

Here's an interesting article about him written before the season:
http://preps.heraldtribune.com/2014/08/21/provitt-player-.../

It seems he is originally from Youngstown, but his family moved to Florida at some point. One of the things that may have hurt him, recruiting wise, is that he was a three-sport athlete, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. These days athletes tend not to do that, and instead focus on a single sport so they can be the best possible at that sport.

LC, I'm with you. There has to be a story here.

I watched the video. Always hard to tell what level of competition on film, but given its Florida I have to believe it was good.

Langston seems to have good lateral speed and change of direction.

Did every other college think he was going to play another sport?

Seems to be great scouting by Ohio...Provitt could be a real steal in this recruiting year.

There's so many plays in that film where hes playing QB, and even with the entire defense stacking the box he just runs around them.

Agree with everything you say. It is amazing he didn't have offers. Have to wonder if he played so many positions that it was hard to pin him down position-wise. He is an "athlete" for sure.

I watched the videos again, and I think that the multiple sports and multiple positions may be be a part of his lack of offers, but I think that the thing that probably held the offers back was probably the stopwatch. I bet that, if you timed him, he only runs a 4.7 or so 40. He rarely, if ever, flat outruns anyone. The good news is that he runs a 4.7 forty backwards and sideways, too. ;)

Seriously, from watching the film, his best attributes are his toughness, his ability to see and understand what is going on on the field, his balance, his ability to accelerate in any direction at any time, and his ability to just make plays when they are needed. He is cool under fire, and just makes things happen.

I think he has the ability to make an immediate impact as a punt-returner, a position that calls for acceleration, ability to change direction, toughness, and field awareness. Beyond that, will he end up on defense or offense? I have no idea, but I bet he finds his way onto the field somewhere.

Slotted at DB. I am hoping that is because we have so much talent at the WR position that we would never be able to use his athletic skills on offense.

Try this. Ball to RB. Have Ball red-shirt and study all the film on on Roger Craig and Marcus Allen. Now since Mr. Provitt likes to be busy have him practice all the DB position and a little Wildcat in his spare time.

Why Bcat, I'd say that is blasphemes, pure and simple and from you of all people.

I like it; reminds me of the 70's on campus where after a while even the straight kids started acting like rabblerousers against authority.

There are some years in the 70s I don't seem to remember well.
