Wouldn't be a normal year without a totally out of the blue surprise on signing day. Welcome, Scean.

WOW - hope this happens - the competition this kid has played against just this past year is incredible: Dominiquez, Concord De La Salle, Mater Dei, St. John Bosco. Some of the best not just in CA, but the country.

Welcome young man. Welcome.

from the OC paper - last August - ranked #6 D lineman

Add Mustin to the list of defensive tackles to watch. He is 6-foot-2, 296 pounds and combines power with quick feet. He also used his long arms to make tackles in the backfield last season in the Trinity League. Sacramento State has already noticed, but Mustin could attract more attention this fall. “He has grown tremendously in the past year,” Orange Lutheran coach Chuck Petersen said. “Loads of potential.”

We are thinking the same Doc. Williamson is EXACTLY the guy I thought of watching that highlight tape.

I'm a little surprised he didn't have more offers. He looks like a monster on the d-line. Very explosive.

As said above, a monster, very big and strong, and very quick for his size. When you factor in that his plays were against very, very good competition, and that he is often being double teamed, it amazes me that he had no other offers. He is going to wreak havoc in the MAC.

I am so happy the2016 DL will not need him next year. It would be such a shame to trade this man's play as a true freshman for what I expect he will produce as a RS Sr..

Would you have sat Roosevelt Nix at Kent as a freshman?

Considering football is a dangerous sport, injuries have a way of forcing players to take a year off in too may cases. Always play the best and do not try to save for tomorrow. If a program's recruiting is improving, there should be a suitable replacement to take over in four years. How is not playing the best fair to the seniors who want to win NOW?

So, as Maxwell is Big Ben, Mustin-Sherman now is Roosevelt Nix. Good to know.

Obviously, whichever route you choose, it's a gamble. No one knows the future. Well, other than a handful of experts on BA.com.

Do we really need this silliness? It is well established that if he is good enough to be in the top two strings, he'll play, and if he's not, he probably won't unless there are injuries ahead of him.

Sometimes players play only a little and you end up regretting playing them at all, and you wish you had them back for a fifth year instead. Sometimes you don't play them and they end up missing a season later anyway because of an injury. It is what it is.

Is Scean good enough, and big and strong enough to play? It certainly seems possible, but with the likes of Aloese, Sayles, Porter, and Strobel he may end up with a year off to adjust to college. Or, he may be the next Roosevelt Nix, and he may move right to the top. We'll see this fall, but arguing about it at this time seems rather pointless.

It's true that there are cases where people played as true freshmen even though they weren't in the top two strings. That's why I used the conditional word "probably", saying that if he doesn't make the first two strings he probably won't play. He still might, if the coaches feel that he has something to add in certain circumstances.

L.C. You are spot on as always. Save your breath trying to educate an individual who obviously has a negative agenda that dominates whatever topic or "thread" that is posted. Go 'Cats !
