Many may not like it/agree with it/understand it. But the following piece explains why some (certainly not all) kids would rather walk on at a top Power 5 conference school than accept a scholarship and have better opportunities to play right away at a MAC school.

Please understand that USA Today busies up their web material with video and other fun things that can slow down page loading...

Sounds good for kids who can afford it.

Granted, maybe it's on a lesser scale but doesn't Ohio do the same thing? Doesn't Ohio also have a walk-on program? I'm sure there are people at D3 schools that say "why would 'AJ' (for example) try to walk on at Ohio University without even the promise of a scholarship when he could play here at John Carroll with merit aid to defray the cost of tuition and be a guaranteed starter?" Seems to me Ohio does the same thing, albeit on a lesser scale perhaps.

Central Michigan had the #1 overall draft pick in 2013 so that the player in the article had a few MAC offers but choose to walk on at Ohio State doesn't mean much when he won't be the #1 overall draft pick or be drafted at all.
