Still thinking that the way we play, the results we get affects recruiting.

Complaints about the overall offensive performance aside, play calling and whatever else... we win more than we lose with below average qb play. I would think a solid qb who believes in his ability should see this as a great opportunity.

Said it before and will say it again. The only real commitment comes when a kid signs his LOI. Until then, these commitments are little more than statements of preference at a given time. Nothing wrong with that, either. Only saying we should understand them for what they are.

Sadly, I suspect we'll lose at least one more...

We had a QB visit during the Akron game. Is this really a big surprise?
Willie Cherry played QB very well. Watching his video I remember thinking how easily he made the decisions and how he had a knack for making the defender respond to him.

Everyone please remember, Ohio's best and brightest and this year's Defensive POY have been February signees.

Not super surprised. Maloney probably thought he'd be coming into a situation where the starter was a graduating senior (Sprague or Windham) and he'd be able to compete for playing time almost immediately. With Maxwell starting now with 3 more years of eligibility, that's not going to be the case.

Time to see if Keszei sticks. I bet he does since he was injured early in this past season. His offer list probably hasn't grown much.

It wasn't him I was talking about, but you're right about Cherry.

I can't see this being part of it. If anything, I think this year showed for the first time that Frank will go with who he thinks is most capable, not most senior. There's been little from Maxwell to show that he is unbeatable. I imagine any incoming QB would feel confident enough in his own abilities to feel he has a chance to come and be the starter. Same discussion we have had with Burrows at OSU. Yes, there are players in front of him, but if you're confident enough in your ability, you feel you're the one who can make a difference.

Also, with the injuries to our QBs over the last couple of years, the fact that only 1 QB will be on the roster that has thrown a pass in a game will be quite the opportunity for any incoming player.

I agree, he will have to compete against better qb's at other places. Maybe it was our link that stated would you let your son play qb for Ohio or him seeing our playcalling, which is improving. He is missing out. He could have easily made a name for his self at Ohio and he would have had a greatime and got a great education as well.

Instead of jumping to narratives that may fit one's perspective, need to look at his situation more broadly to understand his move. Northwestern is a South Carolina powerhouse. Multiple state championships over the past few years. They had Justin Worley at QB a few years back (Gatorade player of year - went to TN - where HS teammate Cordarrelle Patterson also went), Followed by Mason Rudolph (see Okla St.). Moloney is not from Rock Hill. Transferred in right before junior year. Offense going through alteration. Used to be pass happy (e.g., pass 75% of the time), moved more to balance attack with QB running - sound familiar?

Moloney wins starter as junior - pretty much an unknown - since he transferred in. We offer, ECU, and smaller southern schools. According to local beat writer - Offense opens up a bit more this year (since kid has proven himself) - but not nearly to the 2010-2011 days. Still running 12 - 18 times per game (until he breaks bone in lower arm - non throwing hand).

During season, kid starts hearing from Chapel Hill, TN, others. According to ECU booster they are all over the kid now.

So doesn't appear to be function of our play calling (he runs more than Maxwell), or fear of competition. Simply pastures - local and otherwise - opening up.

I'm having lunch on Monday with ECU booster - will see what else he hears now with decommit - not that it matters.

Two extremes, cc cat. Which one has more credibility would be a great poll question for BA posters.

And reality is (like with almost everything debated on this board) the truth lies somewhere in the middle - imagine that.

Except I admit Ohio's recruits are chosen more for demonstrated toughness and the coach's perceived upside than for being "All-Americans." Nine out of ten Ohio recruits red-shirt. Flading, Carrie, Brazill and Basham were not high school All-Americans. What they became as football players they became at Ohio. Monroe's descriptions of my positions are without base. Par for the course.

Wait a minute. THere's been not much specific criticism of the recruiting--despite the fantasy allegations in the posts above--other than to say that the mediocrity in the won-loss situation (few good wins, many crashing losses in the last four years, many wins against cupcakes) has to have some connection to recruiting.

Above, there was some analysis of a lad's level of achievement and competition in high school. Mildly amusing, I suppose, but I'm a bottom-line guy:

Are we recruiting well enough to get a MACC and well enough to reasonably consistently beat the teams that we should be instead of poor MAC performances?

So, if we want Greg Moloney ..and had him..but now don't, then I don't much care why. I just know that we must see some hole at the qb position that we want to address but, apparently, haven't.

This thread is about Gage. Thus reported. Someone wants to start a thread regarding our recruiting prowess or lack there of. Have at it. Tired of every thread turning into a referendum on the coaches and program - reduces the value of every thread.

Monroe. As far as a hole at qb we still have Keszel coming in who appears to be a better athlete and thrower. There is a separate thread on him. So no need to rehash here. Whether he or any other QB get well developed is for a separate thread. Which I'm sure exists or has existed.

Thank you for policing what can be talked about in this thread.

I'd hate to have analysis of our recruiting as part of a recruiting thread. That would be so off topic.

Isn't pure dislike for me instead of actually considering what I write getting a little old for you?
