Late May/Early June seems to be when they start, and when the camps around the state happen in June, the verbals start rolling in. By August 1 the number of verbals drops since there are few positions still open. The last three years there have been 13, 12, and 14 verbals in by July 31st. Most likely that's what we'll see again.

I will guess May 23rd for the first verbal...

The talent gap between Power 5 and our level is widening.

Players with P5 potential get sorted out more quickly. This should cause our candidates to be defined earlier and thus earlier commits. If you hesitate you will fall to FCS.

I've got to think that a verbal is coming real soon. Can't believe we don't have one by now

Let's not take early commitments just to say we got an early verbal. Let's get the best players.

War for Ricky
Bobby
By ROBERT SMITH
Ohio is in a heated battle for
5'3" 150lbs, QB Ricky Bobby, Ricky
Bobby is an all conference Idaho QB,
whom Ohio coaches are likening to
Russell Wilson. Ohio believes they
have the next Ben Roethlisberger on
their roster as well. Roethlisberger
a former Miami University standout
has led the Pittsburgh Steelers to two
Super Bowl victories. Ricky Bobby
is sure to battle Big Ben for the job
in the future. He went 7-15 for 93
yards this season, he also ran for 42 yards on 21 carries. Bobby was hampered
by a bad ankle, which kept him off
the radar of other JUCO's and ma-
jor college programs. The coaches say
they have a highlight tape and he is
a good thrower.

It was 2013 when shovels were in the ground for the IPF. The 2014 class was recruited starting summer of 2013 so it looks like the IPF has made a huge difference in recruiting.

LC,
Why do you think the numbers are so low for signings so far this year. Seems like s big change from the last few previous years.

May was the same, but the last 40 days or so there have been no commits, while in prior years there were a bunch of recruits. My best guess is that it has to be one of three reasons:
1. They are trying for a higher grade of recruit, and have been more selective about who they have sent offers to.
2. Losing Coach George at this critical time in the recruiting cycle has made it difficult to close the deal.
3. The mystery of whether off-campus camps would be permitted this year affected recruiting. Did Ohio have the off-campus camps around the state this year? I didn't see any publicity on them, if they did.

I'm going with #2. Hopefully, as the new guy gets up to speed, they can make up lost ground. I'd like to see 5-6 recruits commit between now and the end of July.

Ohio had their normal camps.

Thanks, Ted. Normally they make a number of offers at those camps to players who perform well, and normally they get some acceptances at the camp. I guess I could add a #4 - maybe they did get some acceptances, but no one has been publicizing them, so we haven't heard about them yet.

There are 47 players on the recruiting board from Ohio and 47 players on the recruiting board from FL/GA. I see much more of an emphasis in making southern in-roads so I will have to go with #1. #4 could be recruiting lag from the 2015 season where Ohio was 6-6. Back 2 Back bowl wins in 2011 and 2012 could have carried recruiting for a couple of seasons.

2016 here means the lads entering camp now, right?

If so, July being over, 2017 is behind prior years. That may be good, may be a function of us being able to be more selective. Otherwise...??

With other schools in the MAC on the rise now in recruiting most definitely is a concern.
