Here is a great indepth article on Rourke's commitment. http://www.sportsnet.ca/football/nfl/canadian-qb-standout... /
So, always nice to beat Akron for a recruit. He likes the offense Ohio runs.

He likes the offense that OHIO runs? Worrisome; no one likes the offense that OHIO runs.

ExCat, any thoughts on this QB addition, and on how he will fit in at Ohio?

If Quentin Maxwell doesn't improve his accuracy, Keszei or Rourke will start next year. Like I stated before, his style of play is going to give us heart attacks but he will make some incredible down field plays because he keeps his eyes downfield. He wont be able to do the "ring around the rosey" in the pocket all the time, however scramble plays for receivers should produce a lot of catches. Rourke is equivalent to a more accurate -throwing Sprague with the same escaping abilities. He is hard to judge because of competition. I plan on going to Spring Game this year to really see how he reacts and adjusts to D-1 speed.

Here I am hoping Maxwell is better and the new kid is everything we hope and that the Spring Game is just not where we will see it because the Ohio defense is just that good.

Maxwell is still very green, Keszei had a season ending injury and only played one game last year. Therefore he will be Red shirted. So it is Maxwell , Duckworth and Rourke.
I like Maxwell out of this group to emerge as our starter. Rourke has never played at a very high level of competition so he is a question mark.
Duckworth has not been able to garner any playing time after 3 years on the team.

Bcat2- You really think the defense can beat down the offense with the graduating defensive seniors in place now before the Spring game 2017? Might want to look at the roster before you state that....

I said it is what I am "hoping for." Same thing I hope for every year. I expect Lowery, Wood, Pruehs, McCray, Pleasants, Anderson maybe Beadle to fare better than last spring. Though I still like Aloese, Smart, Porter, Robbins, Berger, , Moore, Hagan, maybe Mustin-Sherman, Poling, Williams, Nelson, Tupa as a core of a fine defense.

Not predicting such a defense, but, hoping for it. Sorry if I was not clear.

If he won't predict it, I will. Yes, the defense loses some excellent players, especially up front, but Ohio has been recruiting the DL especially well the last few years, and there is outstanding depth. I believe the DL will be down next year from this, but still better than average. Meanwhile the DBs will be substantially improved, and the overall defense should be comparable to this year.

The offense has lesser losses, but also has lesser depth. How good the offense is next year depends on how good the QB position turns out to be.

I agree
We were 104 of 128 in pass defense. If these QB's cannot have some success against our D, then we will be having this same conversation about a QB next year.

Yeah. Live off your expectations.

As opposed to the downward reality of 8-6.

Don't let reality get in the way of your fantasy world.

Not hoping for it but I think our DL regresses next year because Sayles and Basham were that good. However our DBs progress from this year because of experience. Its crazy how classes come and go and what strengths become weaknesses and vice versa. Gotta love the dynamics of recruiting in football.

ExCat, do you think the rotation of 8 linemen last year will soften the blow?

Yes the 8 man rotation helps. We didn't have 8 man rotation in 2006 so towards the end of the season you can finish stronger. However, the first 4 we had this year had a ton of experience and will be hard to make up for. With time they get better as the season goes but who is behind the new 2017 first four will be the main question on defense. I can see us as a better running team on offense with all the experience. May not have to pass as much.

He signed in December on JUCO LOI signing day, didn't he? Subject line still says "commit." Is he enrolled this semester? Will we see him in Spring game?

In the words of Monroe, Wrong! ;-)

I guess he wasn't eligible to sign in the JUCO signing period because he was still enrolled at the JUCO, so he just signed today. Boy, these NCAA rules can be confusing.

So when did he actually sign? At the JUCO LOI day in December, or today? Inquiring minds want to know.
