He'll have four years to complete three. Signed with Ohio today and will enroll in January.

He put up some pretty incredible stats in HS, was 1st Team All American QB by GridironRR (don't know how reputable they are) and is ranked the #4 JUCO QB in the country by the same service. He is the only Freshman listed in the Top 10 of that list. We needed depth for sure and it looks like he plans to challenge for the starting spot from Day 1. Will be an early enrollee according to the article Ted linked.

VERRRRRRRY interesting.....I wonder if the coaches are doubting Maxwell's ability to progress.

I like the touch this guy has on his deep throws. He's not forcing it, but lays it right where the receiver can run under it and grab it.

I'm not sure about velocity on his passes though, and I hope he learns how to stand in the pocket instead of scrambling and trying to force a play.

Level of competition in which he has played is hard for me to get a handle on. Maybe some here have a better feel. No offers out of his U.S. high school and only a few offers after a year at CC spell concern.
This has been a hard position for us to recruit and build depth*. Makes me wonder about the Maloney decommit since Maxwell may not have a firm hold on first team.
If Rourke doesn't win the starting job next year we have : Maxwell, Rourke,true frosh Kenzei, Joey Duckworth (1 career snap in 3 years), and the little walk -on guy from Columbus.

I would love to see Cherry at QB. This offense is tough on QBs. Cherry is a very mobile and sturdy 6'3" 215. Would be sweet to go ahead with two less breakable types back there. Plus Cherry is coming from a program known for producing QBs.

Who knows if they doubt whether Maxwell can be the guy, but the don't need to doubt Maxwell to want another experienced QB on the roster. Even if Maxwell is much improved, he could still get hurt. This guy looks like he'll give Maxwell a run for his money.

I'm wondering if this is more of just getting more quarterbacks. As it stood right before this announcement, Ohio only had 3 quarterbacks heading into next year, Maxwell, Duckworth and Maloney, a true freshman. The way the last several seasons have played out, Ohio has gone through at least 3 qbs due to injury, sometimes more (this year would've been 4 if you throw in Sprague and Krzancic). Ohio probably figured they didn't want their 3rd string QB, who would probably see the field at some point during the regular, being a true freshman. Plus they don't want to burn a redshirt on Maloney. Just a guess though as I'm typically wrong.

Whatever happened to the transfer from Minnesota?

Edit. I see he retired last summer due to concussions.

I've got to say that this guy has done everything he can to be able to play D-1 football. He also is very set on playing in the NFL. He has high ambitions and I hope he has a career at Ohio that will get him to the NFL-that would be something!

Hopefully suitable replacements can be found for Cooper & Watson so whoever is behind center does not have to scurry about like Rourke is in his highlights.

I always worry about QB's that had great lines in front on them in high school because in college, they are going to see some pressure. Judging by the video, he saw a lot of pressure - he's running for his life on nearly every play, and often throwing off balance or on the run. So, with all that pressure, how were his stats?

He was 221-378 passing for 2367 yards, with 18 TDs and 13 interceptions. That is 6.3 yards/attempt, and a pass efficiency of 119.9, not great, but not terrible, and certainly pretty good considering the protection he had. The most amazing stat is that he took 0 sacks.

My take from this is that he's cool, and doesn't panic, and he sees his receivers well. With better protection, presumably his numbers will go up at Ohio. By comparison Windham has a pass efficiency of 120.9 and Maxwell was 131.8.

yikes his passing efficiency is lower than Windham and Maxwell. He was under duress. We will see what happens. We should be open to taking one more if a good one is available. We have four QB's going into next season, with Duckwoth looking like a potential nonfactor.

He seems more like a young JD Sprague with more of a natural touch on the ball and some ability to move in the pocket. Windham and Maxwell throw a line drive designed to protect against interceptions where this guys has precision. For precision the competition doesn't matter too much because it will be a more talented WR vs. more talented DB at the next level.

No D-1 offers after High School career in Alabama.

One other MAC offer after 1 year at CC. (Akron)

If it was only about the stats he would be a Power 5 recruit.

This is an important position for us. This has been an achilles heel for this staff.

Maxwell took a step back in MACC. He also had no other offers to play D1.

Sprague was a walk-on , Vick also no other D1 offers for football. Krizancic (Minny transfer)

played QB for only 1 season in H.S. Duckworth a bust.

Windham was a 3 Star recruit but needed 4 years to become the starter. TT was the exception

Bo and T3 both had major talent and major holes in their games.

He didn't have a "Career" in Alabama. His entire family moved to Alabama after his Junior year in football from Ontario, Canada. He was under recruited because colleges don't start recruiting QB's half way through their senior year of HS, there are usually years and years of contact. Even once in Alabama he played at the 2nd lowest level of competition (sort of like A.J. in Ohio) so that probably didn't help him a lot and explains a lot of the huge numbers.

He's got 4 years to play 3 so that's a plus as well. I expect he and Maxwell to compete for the starting gig and hope that Keszei can redshirt.

Understand that the 1 year in Alabama was to enhance his chances at a D1 offer. That did not happen. In fact he had no D1 offers therefore he headed to CC.
He is from Oakville , Ontario, Canada which is a large suburb west of Toronto. Canadian headquarters of Ford motors is located there and it is a very nice area. I am in that area every month or so and assume that their HIgh School athletic programs are well funded and and at a high level for Canadian football. But it is still Canadian HS football.

I hope he breaks every record at OHIO. My skepticism is based on the nearly non existant recruiting for his services.

Yes, there is definitely a positive correlation between number of offers and how a player turns out, but it's an interesting one. While a high number of offers is a good predictor of future success (think Hagan), some of the very best prospects have few or none (think Mitchell, T3, TT, Brazille, Carrie).

Well we know one thing, this young man is dedicated to his craft. We will see if he has the talent to shine or not. I hope that he does very well. I really liked keszei and Moloney. I am starting to like him as well.
