Certainly agree that a team that is committed and unified is much more likely to succeed than not.  And to be more fun to follow--see Ohio hoops this year.

Yes, I think you may have the guy, though I think it was a little before Fears.  I'm not sure, but I think it was during the Grobe football era and the Hunter basketball era.  Since TOS came a year after Grobe left, there is something missing here.  If someone has an old media guide from that era perhaps they can ferret this out.  I usually save that kind of stuff but I did some cleaning recently and was probably overly aggressive because I can't find one that old.

Herman will do fine at OU. He is definitely one kid that is getting the  "shot" that he deserves. He is a multi-talented athlete. He is just as good at basketball as he is at football. The only thing a loyal OU fan can do now is sit back and wait for fall.  He is definitely one of those kids that collleges have "slept" on. I'm excited to see what happens next with him.

To the comment about Fairfield being second in place last year in the GMC for BB, they were tied for first place with Lakota West, Middletown, and Sycamore. FF was in 5th place until they beat out Middletown and Lakota West who were both in first place. Now FF is in 2nd place because Middletown just won over the weekend. The only reason they are ahead is because they have played more games than FF. Herman is the leading scorer on his team right now. If they keep it up they should win the conference and do well during tournament time.

The more I watch his video, the more impressed I am. All too many receivers wait for the ball to come down to them, so that they can catch it with their body. The problem is that that allows the defender time to close, and to make a play, or even pick the ball. Brunis has a natural knack for going up after the ball, and catching it at the soonest possible moment. That leaves the defender no time or chance to make a play. He also seems not to be bothered by traffic. He's going to be fun to watch in the years ahead.

We also had WR Robert Mercer join the basketball team for the 2nd half of the season in 2006-2007. We lost a lot of players that year Ottrix, Johnnie Jackson, Antonio Chatman, so we needed some help in practice. I'm not sure if he ever made it into a game though.

Herman could be our Freddie Barnes. Not great speed, but an excellent athlete with a knack for getting open and making the hard catch.

Jerry Rice is still faster than a 4.7. I hope Brunis does well, but he will have to work to get open. There are receivers that ran a 4.7 and got open but they are usually quick. Brunis can improve his speed and quickness. Sometime you have to take a flyer on someone who does not have optimal speed, if they have skills and heart. Brunis looks like he has both. I hope he does well.

Not saying Brunis has this crazy potential, but to show the ridiculousness of 40 times, at the NFL combine, Anquan Boldin ran a 4.72. Larry Fitzgerald ran a 4.63. Since 2004, receiver prospects at the NFL combine are more likely to have a time greater than 4.6 than below 4.4.

Josh Gordon 4.37 and the guys mentioned previously can all jump and are pretty big.

Again, to appreciate the 40 time you need to know how it was timed. The old numbers from years ago were all hand timed, and the hands are slow, so hand timed numbers tend to be a bit low, by perhaps .2 seconds. Thus a modern 4.60 laser time is the same as an old hand time of 4.40, and the guy running a 4.37 laser time would have posted a blazing 4.17 hand timed. There weren't a lot of sub 4.2 times in the old days, and there aren't a lot of sub 4.40 laser time today. A 4.73 or whatever, is like an old 4.53. It's not extreme, but it's fast enough, especially since, as bobcatblitz pointed out, while he is at Ohio he should lower it. 

To put things in perspective, I remember a player named "Johnny the Jet" Rodgers, who won the Heisman. Was he called the Jet because he was fast? Hardly. It was because of his acceleration, and sideways movement. It was said he ran a 4.8 40, but they jokingly said he could also run a 4.8 backwards and sideways, too.

Brunis has enough speed because he has the explosive acceleration to go with it, and the vertical leaping ability, too.

Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald are not 6'1' 170. I believe Brunis can have success, he needs to get faster. Lavon came in with a slow time and left running 4.4. Lavon, however was quick.

Timing the forty is done without pads and often on a track. Just once I would like to see someone test players in the forty without pads then have them put on pads, cleats and take them back to the field to see if the fastest is still the fastest.

Larry Fitzgerald 6'3" 218 which is Gordon size and Boldin is about 6'1" 216 lbs but the guy must be able to dunk a BB flat footed under the basket. The trend is definitely big receivers in the NFL but for every Gordon there is a Greg Little, big, slow with bad hands and can't get open. There's guys like Travis Benjamin with blazing speed but at 180 lbs wet can't block or take a hit over the middle or they break.

Judging from the way he plays, his vertical is just as impressive. I'm definitely looking forward to watching him as a Bobcat.
