Ohio coaches only play their guys period. You could be more talented but if you get in their doghouse its bye bye. Plenty of guys have slipped thru Ohio’s fingers due to the OU coaches “favoritism” methods but hey who are we right?
In reality though, isn't that true of most coaches? It's certainly true in the NFL.
All coaches are going to pick the players that they think give the team the best chance of winning. All players are going to think they should be starting. This is a debate that will always exist. It is inevitable that some players are going to leave, hoping to find more personal success elsewhere. If the coaching staff is missing great players, and never giving them a chance to excel, it is inevitable that you will find players who leave, and who become stars for some other team, and you are going to find that fairly often. Has that happened?
Surprisingly, I haven't found even one player that went on to great success somewhere else. I can only even think of one player who went on to become a IA starter, and that is Ronnie Bell, who left to play at Georgia State, and who played in 2012-14 for them, starting in 2013:

He completed 49.7% of his passes, with 18 TDs and 21 Interceptions for a pass efficiency of 111. That isn't great, but it isn't awful, either. It's sort of midway between JD Sprague (118) and Austin Everson (105).
Some ex-Ohio recruits who didn't qualify, or players who left Ohio for off-the-field reasons, did well enough in JUCO to win scholarships at P5 Schools. Leavitt was one example of that. Another was Horace Hubbard, who after an off-the-field issue, ended up in JUCO, then at Oklahoma State, though at Oklahoma State he only played in 3 games, making 1 tackle.
Frankly, the argument gets tiresome. A few players leave the program every year. That happens everywhere. Who are the ones that succeeded?
