I edited this to remove an error I made related to a re-rating of Rourke that never happened. I just mis-read the data.

Usually there aren't many ratings changes late in the season. There are some this year:
Aronokhale, 247Sports lowered him from 85 to 82, still a 3-star
Rourke, new rating, 5.4 (Rivals)
Burton - new rating, 5.4 (Rivals)
Clanton - new rating, 5.3 (Rivals)
Oakes - new rating, 5.4 (Rivals)
Vannest - new rating, 5.3 (Rivals)
Atkinson - new rating, 5.2 (Rivals)

It would seem that Rivals, with the extra time between early signing and the February signing is back to rating all the Ohio recruits, though they still don't have an Ohio page anymore.

The highest rated Ohio recruits, by the 247Sports ratings (not their composite rating, but their own evaluation) have been:
87:[2015 Deontai Williams]
86: 2014 McCray, Walker, 2015 Robbins (JUCO), 2017 Coleman, 2019 Daxon, Foster
85: 2012 Sebastian Smith, 2017 Brevin Harris

Since Deontai Williams never enrolled, that means this class has 3 of the top 7 all time. For what it's worth, here are the stats for several of those top rated recruits who either never enrolled, or who left:

Is Rourke #2 our highest rated QB recruit ever? If not when was the last time we had a QB come in higher?

what is his actual rating? is he a three star? we've had more three stars in recent years so it's hard to say who would be the highest rated coming out of HS. Mischler, Kezsei (sp?) were both pretty highly rated. I expect the 2020 QB race to be one of the most competitive in Ohio history.

Are you guys not seeing the info in L.C.'s post? It's all there. He's not only the highest rated QB ever, he's the highest rated player ever.

His rating is an 88 which is still 3 star, but nearly the top of the scale..

I was just talking recent QBs not ratings within this class

You can't ask the question "who was the highest rated" without adding a specification as to which rating service. I can give you ratings, but as a fair warning, when you see these, it will only increase your questions about the validity of these ratings.

Highest rated by ESPN (note, they do not rate JUCO players):
Bates 7.4
Windham 7.4
Duckworth 7.3
Bell 7.1
Snyder 7.0

Scout.com (note: no longer exists):
B. Jackson 4 stars
Bower 3
Duckworth 3
Keszei 3

Rivals.com (note: minimum used to be 4.9, now is 5.2):
Bates 5.7
Bower 5.6
Duckworth 5.6
B. Jackson 5.5

247Sports.com (internal rating, not composite, began in 2012)
Duckworth 84
Keszei 81
Windham 80
Mischler 79

Ranking based on competitive offers:
Duckworth: Akron, BG, Buffalo, Kent, Toledo, WMU
Windham: UC, Troy, W. Kentucky Tenn. State
Keszei: NIU, Buffalo, EMU, Ill. State, Holy Cross
Mischler: Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, E. Kentucky
B. Jackson: Memphis, Utah

Completely absent from these lists are Rourke, Tettleton, T. Scott, and Vick.

I’m still see Rourke as a 79 on 247 so I wouldn’t get too excited. Must be missing something.

Ha, True. He's rated the #88 Pro Style QB overall, that's probably the mix up.

Indeed it is. I looked at the wrong number. The one is above the other, and I was updating a lot of stuff, and just made a mistake. I noticed that his composite went up, and was looking to see why, and saw the 88. The move up must have been because he was rated on Rivals. I should have realized that an 88 would have moved the composite up more than it moved.

Nevertheless, in the process of listing all of Ohio's "best" QB recruits, by the various recruiting services, it's clear that these ratings tell us nothing about which QBs will do well. Which would you rather have? Duckworth, Bates (at QB), and Bower? or Tettleton, N. Rourke, and T. Scott?
