Just saw on Twitter he says he is transferring from MSU. However, his Twitter picture is as a basketball player. Looks like 2020 Grad from Hilliard Bradley.

Seems like a done deal.

He was a three-star recruit who had 14 offers out of high school. Most were mid-major or lower level teams from major conferences (Maryland, Kentucky, Iowa State, Boston College) but he also had offers from Minnesota, Purdue and Louisville.

Can he play this season or is he going to have to sit out a year? Can't remember if they abolished that rule or not...

Isn't he a graduate transfer? They never have had to sit out a year. They were always immediately eligible.

The mlive.com article said he originally signed with the 2020 recruiting class at Michigan State.

He was a freshman last year. took a redshirt. never played a snap. I think he has to sit out a year (will defer to others as transfer rules are jumbled with covid) but has 4 years of eligibility left.

I stand corrected. I guess I'm getting him mixed up with someone else. Aren't we getting a grad transfer, too?

He is good enough to step in next year and start. We lose some DL guys and he can play anywhere on the line. If he can practice it will toughen up OUr OLine.

I saw Chris Mayfield play basketball several times when he was at Hilliard Bradley. I was every bit as impressed with his smart play and the way he embraced his role on very good teams as I was with his athleticism.

I'm sure this applies to the way he approaches football as well. I look forward to seeing him play for the Bobcats.

The rules were changed in April and will allow Chris and other athletes in D1 football and men's and women's hoops to play immediately (other D! sports were already covered for immediate eligibility).

This rule change came after the 20-21 hoops season, for which the NCAA granted waivers to just about every transfer allowing them to play right away.

Although listed as a DT I’d like to see him at strong side DE with Evans on the other side. He started out as a linebacker at Hilliard and then moved over to DE.....athletic enough to play anywhere on the DL.
