Claims the longest field goal in Ohio this year. Saw a video...looks like it was 56 yards.
How are there kids like this barely getting recruited in high school when schools like Ohio State are rolling with a kicker who can’t hit anything beyond 35 reliably?
One, only one player plays across the country. Backups rarely see time or get scholarship. And it’s also not always about leg strength. Launch angle, timing etc all matter. And even though every team has a special teams coordinator, they rarely actually know anything about kicking. Probably the toughest position in football to get recruited
Illinois State fans would echo much of this. Brutal way to lose Natty
Illinois State’s fate drives this point home, spending a scholarship plus maybe a small amount of money on a top kicker seems like a real way to help set a G5 apart and give you a real leg up. We very well may have won at Rutgers and Ball State with a kicker who was reliable inside 45-50 yards. That would have likely had us heavily in the playoff conversation if we won the MAC title after that. I think two wins vs P4 opponents and 2 losses to a top 5 team and an 8-4 conference opponent would have beat out JMU losing once with no P4 wins.
