Either you're green and growing, or ripe and rotting. Ohio football is the latter. Solich, Albin and Burrow have shown virtually no improvement for a long time. Ohio football is stale. Either they can't start a game, or can't finish it. Either way, they do not play 60 good minutes of football.

We will now divide into two camps. Most will have their Moral Victories Bowl t-shirts printed. I will join the few that live in reality. I stopped comparing results to the Lichtenberg and Knorr eras a long time ago. My checkbook is closed and my feelings are apathetic.

Yeah I hate to admit it but to me, Coach Solich is the Marty Schottenheimer of Ohio football. A championship is asking too much of Solich when he sticks to his assistant coaches when it’s clear changes need to be made. We’ll be 7-5 and go to a bowl. Yawn because soooo much more was expected of this team.

Think Nebraska would trade us coaching staffs right now? I'm up for it if they are.

The past two weeks have been absurdly frustrating. Should have won the damn game today. How can we not punch it in with this offense at the end? Rourke is tremendous at running the option - when we lost five yards after the AJ run we should have ran an option play. I trust Roarke running the ball on any down and distance, especially at the goal line. Throwing a pick in that situation is absolutely torture.

This has just been a tough start to the season - with a tough FCS team first an ODD (and unfair, IMO) BYE WEEK 2, then a hurricane moving our 2nd game, etc. Bizarre. All I can say is that I'm ready for conference play. I think Buffalo and Akron are still head and shoulders above us in the East but it should be competitive.

Nebraska has never bested Solich's final record of 9-3 since they fired him.

Doesn't look like it will happen this year, either.

Unfortunately, unless the defense improves, the same can be said for Ohio.

After Akron loses here on 11/23, they might need to reschedule Nebraska to get bowl eligible.

Funny, last week folks were bitching about running an option.

Interesting that the same person you trust to make a good decision on an option is the same person you distrust to make a decision throwing the ball. Yet the fundamentals of the two plays are the same.

mentally, maybe. Rourke is stunningly good at making an accurate option pitch under duress, but he is not an accurate overhand thrower.

Let's ignore the fact that he led the team in fumbles lost, again, ball security! He's lost as many fumbles as Irons and AJ combined.

They had their chance to play Nebraska, but now Nebraska is no longer available. Nebraska is making up the Akron game with an October 27th game against Buthane Cookman:

Is trying to see over a big offensive line affecting his timing on throwing downfield? Timing with the receivers?

And how did firing Bobby Williams and John L. Smith work out for Michigan State?

How about Tommy Tuberville at Auburn and Cincinnati? Seems to be going well for both of those programs. (And yes, Chizik got fired 3 years later, but he won a natty and a conference title at least)

Again, I'm glad you enjoy making bowl games in an era where there are 40 of them. And you know what, sometimes a change of coach changes a lot of things for the good. Look at what happened with Dino Babers at Syracuse. That guy has spiced things up there in a hurry and are gunning for a lot at the moment. Same with Dave Clawson at Wake Forest.

With a offensive performance last year ranked 10th in the country and this year even with a tepid start 47th in the country I feel like I need to see more evidence before I'm in full protest mode against the coaching staff. These next two games the staff has to win. They have to win both of them and right the record above .500.

Next two are critical and argue next 3, especially with BG as our Homecoming game. For me, I'm tired of losing Homecoming every year and to be honest only thing I can blame it on is guys getting out on Court St. the night before. And if anyone wants to say our players don't do that, they do.

Aren't they camped out at the Holiday Inn to prevent any temptation the night before home games?

I'm not sure you are understanding my point. My point is that when you have coaches that perform pretty well, but not quite to the elite level that some expect, making a coaching change doesn't always immediately result in the success you wanted. Sometimes the coaching change does. But no successful examples of that immediately come to mind for me. (edit: I think Dabo Sweeney at Clemson may be a good example of this)

The examples you listed here are not the same situation. Both Babers and Clawson took over for coaches that had back-to-back losing seasons. So of course you'd want to consider a coaching change then.

We are talking about examples of coaches like Saban at MSU, Solich at Nebraska and I guess Schottenheimer with the Browns, that were consistently pretty good, but didn't take the next step.

Their immediate replacements not only didn't get the organization where they wanted to go, it actually resulted in something worse.

I don't want that to happen to OU.

I understand some people think it is worth a risk.

At this time, I don't.

I do enjoy 8-9 wins each year, an occasional win over a P5 school, competing for a MACC and a bowl game. I would love an access bowl. I don't think replacing Solich guarantees that. I don't think the gap between what Ohio has done over the past 10 years and what NIU and Toledo has done is that great (although I fully acknowledge that NIU had a nice run we're all jealous of). I also acknowledge Solich hasn't led us to a MACC. I hate that too.

When Solich is gone -- either after some losing seasons or whenever he wants to retire -- maybe Arth is the guy to take us to the magical "next level". But I'm not willing to give up what are likely to be very fun seasons with Solich and an overall solid program when we don't have to.
