Didn't they only have them listed as 1-point favorites against Fiami? (a game that they won 21-0)

Be nice to see a complete game from the offense. Be REALLY nice to see anything from our defensive backs.

Could not be more disappointed going in to this game. I finally get a UC Game here in Cincinnati and we look awful on D.

The chirping already started at work today. Lots of buddies coming for a tailgate mixed with Bobcats, UC and Fiami grads. I may call in sick and go golfing.

Nice to see Bearcat fans on Bearcat Banter excited about playing Ohio and hoping for more games to be added down the road. Saturday should be fun with the 110 going and probably a decent representation of Ohio Fans.

I seem to remember we have been in this situation in previous years and then the ship is righted.
Our record stands @ 1-1.
Let's keep things in perspective and not over react.
We have trusted this coaching staff before and they have come through.
They are the best staff since the Bill Hess days, some 40 or so years ago.

My enthusiasm for this game has kind of weened since the preseason.

UC has looked much stronger than I thought they would coming into the season.

The Bobcats have looked much weaker than I thought they would be coming into the season.

It's hard to get a read on their pass offense. Did not light it up through the air against UCLA but that was game one, on the road, in one of the biggest stadiums in the country, against a PAC 10 team. The Miami game was played in a pretty strong rain storm and Alabama A&M probably has a below average pass defense.

My guess is they will get some pretty solid yardage through the air.

The defense I am afraid is just going to be a liability this year. I don't see it being 200+ yards better in a week's time.

Offense will have to carry the load and put a lot of points up if the Green Guys want to leave Clifton with a win.

Hoping to see the strongest performance of the year from both sides of the ball on Saturday.

I will go reluctantly.

I cannot explain to you all the disappointment of arriving to the game in Nashville about 8 minutes into it. Unacceptable starts have been pretty par the last few years.

I'll be there plus 3 (Wife, Alum Son #1 and fiancé). Bummer about the start time...probably won't do an 0900 tailgate, but am definitely interested in Oktoberfest Zinzinnati afterwards, especially with a Bobcat win. So, the 110's coming?

Count me as one who is also not impressed by our play so far. I thought it was interesting that Frank continued to emphasize "technique" as something to be worked upon in the presser...I believe he feels that the team has the physical skills and attitude to play at a much higher level. Puzzling as to how that can be with all the veterans on offense. Perhaps we're feeling the effect of not having Pruehs in the middle of the O-line (calling adjustments to blocking schemes would definitely fall under the category of "technique").

Keeping an optimistic attitude for now at least. The unexpected happens all the time in college football!

Unimpressive Ohio performances, but what have turned out to be two very competitive and entertaining (albeit frustrating at times) games.

I hope this game continues this competitive start to the season. It's good for ratings and for fans for both teams to be in this game and play well.

Defense better show up or this one could get ugly....Warren is showing why he was Mr. Football in the state of Ohio for the Bearcats and should get some serious touches against our front 7.

Ohio will come out swinging in this one, our linebackers and safeties will tackle well and we will not give out any Gold Jackets this week. Ohio wins 35-24. Sambobcat spikes the football. Go Cats.

Haven't sat down to watch the tape of Cincy's games but I do know that none of the teams they've played have been all that good. The first game against UCLA was Thompson-Robinson's first career college game (kinda off topic but I don't think Chip Kelly is all that good). Miami is Miami and it was UC's home opener and in horrible weather. Alabama A&M is an FCS school. Call me naive but UC hasn't proved anything more than they've won winnable games (which seems to be better than OU can say the past few seasons). This is the same UC team that has gone 4-8 both of the last two seasons, they're obviously better but I can't see this being a three touchdown beat down.

I would think we will change our defensive secondary tactics this week. Seemed we sold out to stop the run against Virginia and it burned us on short passing and yards-after-catch.

I would think we'll go to more of a prevent style defense against Cincinnati. If so, we'll be tested in the red zone. UC will likely have no trouble marching down the field. Can Ohio hold them out of the end zone?

I pretty much agree. It wouldn't seem surprising for Ohio to win this game or lose this game, but I think it will be exciting game. I expect a close high scoring game. I like that Cincy's feeling pretty good about themselves right now going into Saturday. However, Cincy's wins were against 3 teams that have a combined record of 1-8:

UCLA 0-3 (curb stomped at home by a good Fresno State team over the weekend)
Miami 0-3
Alabama A&M 1-2 (win against Miles College?)

I watched some of Miami/Cincy game. Horrible playing conditions, but the game was closer than the score reflects. Game was 7-0 early in 4th quarter. Miami QB threw an INT to give Cincy their 2nd TD with around 13 minutes left. Miami QB also over shot an open receiver at 1 yard line I think around 9 minute mark of 4th quarter that would have made it 14-7. Game wasn't really decided until Cincy scored 3rd TD with under 4 minutes left.

Ohio's a Jekyll and Hyde team....very frustrating...look horrible one quarter, great the next...same as last year...can walk in and beat Toledo, then just crap the bed at Akron and Buffalo, and then blowout win a bowl game. It's just better to go in without expectations of which team you will see.

It could be the week Ohio puts it all together. No more slow starts.

Funny how football goes sometimes, eh? Coming into the season, there were thoughts that Ohio would be able to run the ball early consistently and the back end might help give the front seven time to mature. That hasn't materialized.

On offense, the talk has been about slow starts and improving the running game, and rightly so. I'm interested to see how we try to address these issues. Ultimately, what I think this boils down to beat cincinnati is better passing game execution in the first two quarters. One thing I havent heard discussed about the running game but I think is a major issue is that teams have stacked the box against the run in the first half and practically dared us to throw which we havent been able to do consistently. The O-Line's run blocking in the first half appears to be generally good but, particularly against Virginia, we had 6-7 blockers against 8 and 9 man fronts. Virginia had 8-9 men in the box on 6 out of the first 10 running plays. The runs on predictable downs were stopped for little to no gain in the first half. Even though the QB can be thought of in the various options as accounting for an extra defender, we were still outmanned in the box and that QB-accounting-for-defenders becomes less effective when the QB cannot or does not pull the ball from the dive play on the read option.

Not being able to run against a loaded box early, we had excellent opportunities to pass but did not execute on 5 of the 8 drives. On the 1st 8 drives against Howard and Virginia, we had a long qb scramble setting us up for a td, a fg, a missed fg, an oline breakdown or missed block for a sack/fumble/turnover, and 4 punts. On the 4 punts and the missed fg, Ohio stopped itself via execution errors on every one where the plays were there to make. All 5. On four of those drives, balls in the 5-20 yard range were inaccurately thrown at least once or more than once on a drive where the pass blocking allowed for 4-5+ seconds to throw the ball and wrs were open. Ohio will improve there. On one drive we had a missed fg after what looked a dropped pass in the endzone. One of the drives with the overthrows where Ohio did not convert 3rd down also occurred because an out route was run short of the first down marker. I think we can and will execute better in the passing game early.

Cincinnati so far has shown an attacking defense with excellent DT play against the run and pass. What I'd like to see is how we approach this based on what Cinci does and what we learned from the first two weeks. I think it is critical to find a play or two for the QB to have early success and protect the QB from the blitz.
I think if we attempt the run in the first half with the same plan as previous weeks it could be another slow start, especially if we use a ton of TE single wing read option where the QB cant pull the ball and run and we are outnumbered by 2+ defenders in the box. What would be interesting for me to see is using more heavy sets (two TEs or a TE an extra O-lineman) if Cinci is stacking the box. There are big running plays to be had if Ohio can get to the second level and we might be able to use cinci's aggressiveness against it. I really hope Ohio mixes in more 4 wr sets if we can execute the throws because the O-Line, except for a few plays, has provided a ton of time to throw and if we can reduce the number of defenders in the box I like our chances run. Based on what we saw VS Virginia, I'd like to see what our frosh WRs can do against Cinci's 3-4th dbs.
