Haven't seen any new news about the Akron-Nebraska cancellation. But looking back at the contract, it appears that of all of the situations that could void the contract, "lightning" wasn't one of them? Heck even taking "tropical" out of "tropical storm" would have covered the situation (Akron doesn't get paid).

But I can't believe the gall of Akron's AD to try to dictate the re-scheduling of the game. AND to state that Nebraska is afraid to play the Zips.

Look, if someone wants to pay you $1.7 million to play a game, you play it -- even if it is 8 a.m. on a Monday.

There is plenty of precedent for playing games on Sunday Morning. I believe that both WMU and Buffalo have done that in recent years when weather interfered. Nebraska definitely needs a new attorney drafting their contracts, but, that said, it will seem remarkable if Akron gets paid after declining to stay and play. It is especially surprising that Akron didn't stay and play when you consider their financial situation.

Nebraska is playing Buthane Cookman on 10/27 as a makeup for the Akron game.

It's not unusual in contract law for a single word or even a comma to change the meaning of the agreement.

I can sort of see Akron's point that having the team stay an extra night in a dorm (they had checked out of the hotel) would disrupt their routine and put them at a disadvantage. But, yeah, given the money involved you'd think they would've sucked it up for the athletics dept.

One option may be to reschedule for some future season. But because Nebraska has only three OOC games a year, they're booked until 2023.
