Irons is averaging 6.6 yards a carry, while AJ is averaging 3.7 yards/carry. Irons in averaging a TD every 11 carries, while AJ is averaging one every 32 carries. Note that in prior years, the highest average/carry for running backs with over 90 carries in a year have been:
2017 Brown 6.8, AJ 5.2
2016 Brown 5.2, Irons 4.6
2015 Patterson 4.7, AJ 4.6
2014 AJ 4.9
2013 Blankenship 4.5, Boykin 3.9
2012 Blankenship 5.1
2011 Harden 5.3, Blankenship 5.0, Boykin 4.1
2010 Davidson 3.9
2009 Garrett 4.2
2008 Garrett 4.5

Only Brown in 2017 is higher than Irons' average this year of 6.6. Meanwhile, AJ is back in the pack, lower than any feature back on the list. How about bumping the number of carries that Irons gets, and see if they can keep that high average? His average would probably go down a little, but AJ's average would probably go up.

I really hope that we didn’t just burn a year off Irons Eligibility due to the suspension. Plenty kids get suspended but to actually lose the year? For a relative minor incident This kid will be in the NFL So I doubt he cares at this point. Irons should’ve been a starter as was Dorian Brown but you know how that goes.

In yesterday's real-time research of the EMU game from '97, pretty sure Riz Buckman ended in the high 6.XX yards per carry region that year, though unsure if he would have had enough at bats to qualify for league or national recognition, so to speak. Something like 11 per carry that day.

Lot of outlier single game performances for the B-Backs in that part of the Grobe administration.

That was the recent max I remember.

As for Brown, he'd have been the starter in 2014, but unfortunately he had fumble issues. Meanwhile, AJ took the ball, and didn't fumble, and led the team in yards per carry. In 2015, it was a split between Daz and AJ, which was understandable. In 2016, Brown was the starter, and had a good 5.2 yards/carry average. Thus, the only year really in question was 2017, when you had two returning starters, who split the carries. Considering that Brown had the higher average per carry, I think the split should have been 60:40 in favor of Brown, rather than the reverse, but it's also true that when Brown was hot, such as against Toledo, they gave him the ball and let him run. Therefore I can't fault the split too much.

By the way, here are some career stats for various running backs:

Ouellette has very respectable career stats, and has earned his start. Nevertheless, Irons is running much better now than early in his career, and I'd like to see him get more and more carries as the year goes on. I agree, he could play in the NFL. He's ready for a big year, and I could easily see a 1000 yard year for him.

I'd like all 3 to go over a thousand yards and I think it is possible. Rourke,Irons and AJ. However AJUTM for -2 is really starting to hurt that possibility. Both have been good on option plays

That's an interesting thought and entirely possible. They'd need to average 73, 78 and 85 yards per game, respectively, counting nine more games (I'm including a bowl game). That average goes up if they don't make a bowl, but goes down if they make the MACC game.

I hope that the line asserts themselves during Mac play, I love AJ and Itons. I think both should get nfl looks, irons probably needs to work on his top end speed and run a little lower at times. AJ needs to work on his vision and his initial acceleration. We should average 250 yards a game for the rest of the year. I pray that neither gets injured, we should redshirt Ross, he looks a little tentative with the shoulder. Let Allison and neatherton be the backups.

Redshirt Ross AND Allison I would hate for either of them to lose their shirts at this point
