31 points in a quarter. How long's it been since we've done that?

Maleek and AJ over 100, time for Allison. This was AJ’s best game this year. Dorsa, Brooks and Hudson came up big. Where is Buckner? Is he out for the year? We may see keszei or Mischler today. Go Cats

Much rather have Maxwell maintaining his edge. Tougher games ahead.

The season is down to 4 games and the new rule is freshman can play 4 games without burning their redshirt. It might be a good idea to put some of them on the field for the stretch run.

When we run the ball like that and play defense like that we are a pretty good football team. That was vintage Frank Solich power football. We that was Bobcat football. 400 yards rushing. Well gone.

Question. I have been around this game about a hundred years and the option to the short side of the field still gives me the willies. I get the opportunity created when numbers are in your favor, but, still get nervous when it is called. Anyone else the same way?

Yeah same here and I have no idea why coaches do that, but it seems to happen a lot. Go watch an Army, Navy or Georgia Tech game and they option to the short side of the field all the time.

My uneducated guess is that you're trying to put yourself at an advantage because you're most likely playing a defense that has fast guys on the edge. The more space you give those fast guys on defense (wide side of the field), the better chance they have at catching your QB/RB. Run it to the short side, make the field smaller before they can pick up speed?

Makes sense in my head.

I would also say you're making defense decide to commit earlier. There's a chance they choose wrong and you spring something. Less time to view the play developing ... better chance they panic and make mistake.

It's predictable to always run option to wide side ... which is probably why you like it bcat2, 😉😉😉

I tried to listen to the game last night via going to WXTQ's online website. The game was blocked online at their website. I then went to the TuneIn app and the WXTQ site could not be picked up either. Then I tried the Ohio IMG Sports Network on the TuneIn app and got the game. Also, WOUB/WOUC was not broadcasting the game either. As for the CBS feed, like OCF I too went to what I thought was the CBS app on my Apple box for my TV and all I got was something from CBS with a bunch of "talking heads" discussing everything BUT our game. In short, I could not get CBS's broadcast of the game. My local Cable is Comcast/Xfinity who does have the CBS Sports Channel listed (if you hunt long enough for it) but I am not wasting money buying that "package" for extra money. Sorry for the rant but qudos to the Athletic Department and the MAC for making OUr game as obscure and hard to find as possible. Some of us can not drive to Athens to watch a midweek game. Could you at least put it on ESPN3 if you can not get it on any of the other ESPN platforms so that we can watch it? I had the ESPN games on my Apple TV and never once did they mention OUr game, including when they were discussing all of the games being played at their Halftime reports. And for the guy who claims the CBS feed is better than ESPN, I do not know where you live and really do not care. My point is that I have never had a bad feed from the ESPN family of networks. If we are stuck with the midweek games, at least insure that they make it on ESPN so that they can be watched. I understand the income stream argument for playing these games but the MAC should insist that every single midweek MAC game has to be carried on an ESPN channel. Just my $0.02.

Out of Ohio's control. Send complaints to MAC office. This is all their mess. Ohio has zero say where games are put. They take their marching orders from league office.

CBSSN does do a much, much better job than ESPN does mainly because they pay respect to the game and don't use it just as a platform to discuss the CFP & the Heisman race and whatever games they're airing that weekend. The MAC going on has always been a backdrop to ESPN's agenda.

Sorry you couldn't get it on TV ... they even interviewed Frank & AJ after the game ... something you NEVER see ESPN do for a weeknight game.

I hear you bshot44, it is just sad that it is on some obscure network. As was discussed elsewhere, the MAC should insist that these games are carried on a platform that is accessible.

I had the privilege of watching the game at Harrahs in Vegas.

Their sports betting lounge recliners are awesome with a humongous tv and my team in front of me.

I got married on Wednesday and my wife kept bringing me Guinness....me thinks I picked a winner.

Because the option is a north-south play. If you can get a guaranteed 3-5 yards, you take it, and that means getting to the keyed defensive player and then turning up field fast. If executed properly, short or wide side shouldn't matter.

But execution is the problem. Too many players rely on athleticism, thinking it will help them beat the keyed defensive player for a big gain. So they run it too far horizontally. But the more the players run east-west, the more time the defense has to react and put more players in the zone. More defensive players on the short side means less space to work, which is why, as executed, the wide side option frequently is more effective. It's just a matter of spacing.

One thing I think Rourke does REALLY well is turning up field as soon as he sees a window. He'll take the 3-5 yards if you give it to him--but he's also really good at making the first defender or two miss. And that makes a lot of those 3-5 yard runs 10-15+ yard runs.

I just had a heart procedure on Tuesday and I'm supposed to avoid stress, so I'm glad we had a blowout.

This has been a very strange year. I don't remember a Solich team at Ohio that got behind early in nearly every game. The opposition has scored first in seven of the first eight games, but we've managed to win five of them. We lost the only game where we scored first (Cincy). I think that's why it doesn't feel like we're having a winning season. We've been outscored 83-59 in the first quarter. And it's not just the defense getting burned. The offense has come out flat in nearly every game, then needs a big play to wake them up. Last night it was Rourke's big gainer.

We'll need a fast start next week. WMU will likely come out fired up after losing last night. And they have the tools to go downfield on our DBs. I don't think we can win if we have to play catch-up early. We're putting up nearly 50 pts a game at home, but that drops to 27 on the road. And in MAC games (4-0 NIU, 0-4 Kent) we're averaging only 24 on the road. That's probably not going to be enough to beat WMU.

I appreciated CBSSN interviewing our coach and RB captain and thought the same thing - this is something we woulnd't see if the game was on ESPN.

Another thought I had while listening to AJ was how I always appreciate how well-spoken Ohio athletes seem to be when being interviewed. Don't always notice that from college basketball/football players.

CBS Sports Network has 94 percent distribution in digital cable homes. Almost everyone who has cable gets that channel. Obviously some do not but it's not at all obscure in the sense that people don't have it. It does get much lower ratings than ESPN.
