WOW, I can't remember the last time a MAC coach was fired mid season.
There are now 2 interesting facts;
1) BGSU travels to Ohio next week
2) Their new interim coach is Carl Pelini who was on the staff here with Solich.
I'm quite sure there will be quite a bit of discussion, all week, about this game.
I wonder if there will be some players looking to announce their transfer with this coaching change, and as we know schools release their players when there is a coaching change, not to mention any future recruits that have committed.
This decision, now, could have a real negative impact on their program for years to come.
Jinx is still due about $1MM on his contract.
I wonder what team will show up against us next week.

Well, promoting a DC as head coach who’s given up more points than OHIO is a bold move. And lVegas has moved the odds because it’s homecoming and there will be lots of parties for Pelini to attend when he gets to town Friday evening.

I wish they would have waited one week. I'm afraid that this will energize the BG players . . . rally around the flag and the new HC. Hope I'm wrong, but despite what the oddsmakers are saying I'm afraid that this will make this week's game harder . . . not easier.

The OHIO Homecoming scene is mostly beer (and hard liquor). I'm sure BG's interim coach will keep his nose clean.

Yeah, I'm not seeing any snow in the forecast.

I've seen this happen many times over the years. A team fires its coach mid season and there's a temporary upsurge in performance.

Felt like from being in NW Ohio the Toledo Blade had an ax to grind with Mike Jinks. The one editor there really was bent on him getting fired and got his wish. Not sure why the guy attacked him full throttle, but that's what you get for not keeping the media your friend I guess, which to me is a load of bull but what do I know. Hope he is able to show up somewhere else someday and prove people wrong up our way.

Nonetheless, as a coach would you really want to take the job at BGSU now? I am not a fan of firing coaches not even 3 years into a tenure, especially given that it takes patience and time in the MAC to do what you need to do (as it does any other conference). They sit there and go 3 years of recruits should be enough to judge on, but I heavily disagree. In a league like this, you got kids red-shirting like no other and developing. Let's not forget, Jinks was brought in after Babers left for Cuse and essentially ticked off the Pittsburgh recruiting base by getting banned over there from a few schools. So it wasn't like it was as promising of a situation as it was a few years ago prior to Babers coming in and running it into the ground.

Just a lot of reasons why it didn't work for them, along with trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Definitely wasn't ready for primetime due to how green he was. In addition it did not help with the AD that brought him in leaving as soon as he got there. I just hate to see impatience with a coach and process at this level, especially given how long it takes to build a program and do it right.

Sorry if this seems scatterbrained for thoughts, but the way this whole process went down I did not like. I hope BGSU gets a good coach (I know, bad thought on this board) and get its processes back in order again. Alraedy been through enough the last few years as a university and to have to deal with a crap program like this doesn't help any person at that school.

I agree that 5 years should be the norm for the MAC. Unless they are wildly successful then they leave after 3.

If David Briggs is the Blade columnist you're talking about, I'm not sure he was knocking Jinx as much as the AD for hiring him. He ripped into former BG AD Chris Kingston for quickly hiring someone with no college experience as a coordinator, let alone a head coach; no ties to Ohio; and apparently no immediate aspirations for being a college head coach. He called it "the dumbest coaching search in college football history": https://www.toledoblade.com/sports/college/2018/10/14/col...

Jinx came into sort of a no-win situation at BG. Three straight MAC East titles and two MAC championships is a tough act to follow. People expected more than 7-24. Plus there were several off-field issues with players this year -- a spring break brawl and illegally using credit/debit cards -- that didn't help.

"Not long ago, if you had told me Bowling Green would dismiss its highest-paid coach halfway through the third season of a five-year, $2.1 million deal, I would have said someone on the Ay Ziggy Zoomba message board must have won the Powerball."

This sounds familiar.

If I'm a BG grad, don't ask me for donations ever again.

Totally understand, but again, you can't be that bent against a guy who he's mentioned has put up top end recruiting classes at BGSU.

And yes, the fact that this being athletic department driven with no booster help......oh would I be livid.....
